Wow, talk about getting things down quickly.
And I cant believe my eyes. You usually see one guy working at roadwork sites, and the rest standing around, but on this they all seem to be working.

Hm, I wonder how it will go with APEC again next week.

Progress update, 14/4/07.

Some MTT track has been found outside Adelaide Railway station and was dug up this morning. No rails but some circa 70 year old sleepers and concrete was found. Despite being under tarmac for 50 years after the last tram ran, the sleepers are in reasonable condition.

Oddly, the track isn't being laid from what has already been put in but instead is being laid from the King William Street intersection westwards. They were still digging up a section of the North Terrace while they were laying the track down as well so they could possibly be running a little behind schedule. Last week, track work was about 3 hours behind. Plenty of photographs were taken and will be uploaded soon.

I couldn't believe the speed of this work. When I walked into work last night at about 730, they were just closing the street. When I walked home from work this morning, the hole had been dug and preparation had commenced for tracks to be laid. Incredible!

As promised, photos. I have decided to limit myself to 13 photos per post so I don't make everyone on slower interenet connections suffer.

Oh-oh-oh...... North Terrace is just fine! Trams make the whole boulevard even more classier.

From DTEI website:

King William Street and Victoria Square Road closures

The timing of stages 3 and 4 is currently being finalised with all construction works expected to be completed by August 2007 - more information about further road closures will be provided at a later date.

Don't take this as gospel but I think I heard something about Stage 3 being done in mid May (probably from Friday 18th). However, I am not 100% certain about that date. I know it is in May though.

One thing I am certain on is the King William Street section will not be built in one hit as was originally planned so we could see upto about stage 5 of track work. The track gangs are going at a cracker of a pace but doing all of King William Street in one go would be an almost super human effort. Not only that but the amount required would be much longer then the usual 4 days a stage. At a guess, it would be North Terrace-Grenfell Street and then Grenfell Street-Franklin/Flinders Streets. The curve from North Terrace into King William Street was to be done in stage 2 but that has been re-scheduled to stage 3.

I'll keep you all updated when I can.

i usually use the City free (99B) bus to get uni from king william street, which comes every 5 minutes... and i belive the new tram service will be replacing the city free buses (correct me if i'm wrong)

does any1 know how often the trams are expected to service the new area, because i cant see them comming every 5 minutes....
