Hopefully it's not another 'Waymouth Street political grand standing'!

That was good of them to dump some extra dirt on the site for him to dig.

Don't they require approval from the Adelaide City Council to carry out any demolition? When I search the development application tracking system of ACC, all I can see is an approval to setup a showroom.

Yeh this was a complete publicity stunt. The fact they had to ship dirt in... Stage 1 demolition has not been submitted led alone approved. Maybe it's a Chinese developer thing to boost publicity like U2.

I thought the politicians in Australia are more clever than this, how can a MP allow himself to be dragged into a scam like this....

From what I have been told, U2 still doesn't have a builder and their bank valuation is a disaster. Their valuer thinks that their residual site value is close to zero.

The Politicians go along with these launches as it reflects well on them and the local economy. But as you say they really shouldn't be involved unless
there's a builder appointed and strong sales to signal that the development will go ahead.

In regard to U2, I notice that all of the ground floor offices of Aria are still vacant after more than 12 months since the building was completed.
Obviously not good business for Datong.

There was an article in the paper a few weeks ago saying that the demolition for West Franklin will go ahead in July. I imagine that this could still
be possible if they apply to the council soon and get approval.

From domain.com.au
Construction has started on a 560-apartment complex in Adelaide’s west end, the largest residential project in the CBD to date.

The $300 million West Franklin project will see three towers go up on the corner of Franklin and Morphett Streets, boosting the city’s population by 1000 people.

Dubbed a “city village”, the 22-storey complex will comprise of a range of apartments from smaller studios to luxurious multi-million dollar penthouses, as well as a supermarket, cafe and other specialty shops.

A roof-top outdoor entertaining area, a glass-sided swimming pool and a spa and health club are also in the plans.

Using a golden shovel to break ground on the site, the South Australian Minister for Investment and Trade, Martin Hamilton-South, officially started the first stage of building on Thursday.

The complex is being developed by the Australian arm of Chinese property company Zhentang Group.

The South Australian government said it welcomes investment from China, declaring Adelaide and the Asian nation enjoyed a strong relationship.

“This is a timely example of the benefits of South Australia’s ever-expanding business and cultural ties with China with the government leading a large business mission to Shandong next week,” Mr Hamilton-South said.

The managing director of Zhentang Group Australia, Nicho Teng, said China views South Australia as a high potential investment market.

“There are a number of social factors which bind South Australians together – among them the environment and lifestyle we enjoy here and the shared imperative to improve our economic fortunes,” Mr Teng said.

The West Franklin project will create 1350 construction jobs, Mr Teng said.

The three buildings are not expected to be completed until 2019 and will increase the Adelaide CBD population by an estimated 1000 people.

The first stage will comprise of 280 one and two-bedroom apartments over 22 floors, with a starting price of $270,000.

The penthouse apartments are expected to fetch more than $2.1 million.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Here it mentions 22-storeys. In the title it says 20. Has there been a change? Am I missing something?

Probably a whole bunch of floor numbers they skip and double up on for good luck when they flog the building off in Asia. Easy to lose count that way. Sure wouldn't want to be looking for my place after a night on the piss though.
