131 metres of a 135m facade is enough to judge. The balconies on the corner look like a damned shower curtain rod. Amazingly, I think Dwell ended up being the better looking of these 2.
Absolute crap.

This is a case of a very simple design with no architectural merit being further let down by poor facade treatment. Had this had a higher reflective continuous facade, rather than the exposed concrete floor breaks it would be better.
Dare I say it, this development needs the student tower next door. At least there is some architectural expression and shape there.

I don't think this building is particularly dreadful, but I do find it a let down. I am amazed at how different it looks from the renders, apart from the height and the podium, the "form" is completely different.
I hope as other buildings are built around it, and as Adelaide continues to build up with more new tallests, this building will begin to sink back in prominance and just act as the cheap practical solution for living it was evidentally intended for.

It will be interesting to see the facade once the internal window treatments/curtains are added. It they are a darker colour, they should blend in somewhat. If they're white, we could end up with a more clutter, chaotic appearance, which may actually help here.

Curious that Crowne Plaza would want their name associated with such a mediocre offering.

It’s actually the other way around. It’s the developer that chooses the hotel group/chain that they want to manage their property. It’s like interviewing different property managers/agents and then choosing which one to go with.

Yes understand that developers might choose a property manager but the development would not proceed without intense collaboration with the hotel chain. i.e. the hotelier would describe what their requirements are and it seems logical that one of those would be a distinctive exterior design which would promote their brand. That’s just speculation on my part though. Let’s hope that the interior will be mind-blowing.

I noticed tonight that the western side of the tower has had some of the exposed floors concrete painted white. It actually looks quite good and adds much needed contrast. I’m assuming all floors will get the same treatment.
There may be a slight glimmer of hope yet.

There is still a lot of work going on this tower, despite the Christmas/New Year shut down across other sites.
More of the exposed concrete floor levels are being painted white, this time on the eastern side of the tower. Also the roof structure is being added, increasing the overall height even further.

I think the white paint is an afterthought and makes it look cheap

Check the first page of this thread, those elements are white in the render of the building.
At the time I think most of us would have assumed it was going to be some clean white concrete, but looking at how they've cheaped out on materials for the rest of the tower it's quite likely the plan all along was to be painted.
