Yeap agree, but it's a bit harder to be critical of the external look of this one when the main point is more about what's inside. Pretty important building in the scheme of things.

The window shades seem to be simultaneously too small to be effective at shading the building, and yet big enough (and the wrong orientation, ie mostly vertical instead of horizontal) to be visually disruptive to anyone looking at the outside view from inside the building. Its a fairly trivial detail, but surely the reason you pay architects loads of money is to ensure these sorts of small details are not overlooked before construction starts...

The shades also look like they currently have a protective covering on them. Perhaps once removed there'll be more of a contrast against the facade as shown on the renders?

For what it's worth having seen the glazing in the flesh I reckon the materials here are of a very high standard and the end result will be quite a striking one!

I don't think there's a cover on them once installed, they're just painted light grey. As you can see, the windows are not being shaded much.

To be fair the elevations from North Tce and from the Adelaide uni building are on the South and East where you dont require much sun shading. The Sunshades as they wrap around get progressively larger with the largest on the Northern Façade on George street.
I like that the Glass that is installed looks to be of high quality doesn't have the issue of the festival tower which on the lower section is really reflective and wavy with the reflections of the adjacent buildings

In the summertime the afternoon sun is in the southwest - the south side (particularly the triangular south western corner) of AHMS gets hit by direct sun for several hours. The stairwell temperature can exceed 30C. and even though the laboratories in that corner have double glazed windows, the airconditioning frequently struggles in that area on each floor. It looks like SAHMRI 2 might experience the same challenges. The sunshades don't seem to do much, they are either the wrong design or on the wrong side of the windows - the sun is in the NE right now, and direct sun is shining straight into the north/eastern aspect windows, with only a little bit of direct sun being blocked (10%?), and when the sun crosses to the SW, it will shine into the SW side of the building and the same will happen. Meanwhile the horizontal shades on the AHMS building are currently blocking about 70% of the direct sunlight. The glazing does look good though - it will have to be.
