Nick Champion spruiking the new tower on ABC Adelaide breakfast radio was asked if it could interfere with the airport flight path: "It won't be a problem because there are taller buildings in the rest of the CBD obviously".
He’s painfully incompetent :wallbash:

Since when does Adelaide have the countries strongest economy? Our economy has always been limp at best. What have I missed?

What do we, the public, as owners of the land, get out of this deal?

We've chipped in $220 million to pretty the plaza and prime rents for Walker in now two overheight towers on public land. Do we get reimbursed? Will Walker contribute to a concert hall or upgrade to Festival Centre? What's our ROI?
This. That area has always been public space in one form or another, what are we getting out of it being given away as an extension of CBD office tower land?

I was against a second walker tower here but now that I have seen this beauty, I take it back!

This will completely transform the look of our skyline and in the most prominent of positions. Its a mini and refreshed Rialto.

Agreed, hopefully it sparks a proper redevelopment of the riverbank.

Loving this, for lots of reasons.

Building higher along North Terrace creates a wonderful vista when looking from the river, and especially when flying into Adelaide from the east, with a row of tall(ish) buildings separated by the older buildings of North Terrace, and greenery along the river. It also builds on a spine along KWS.

Also, this location couldn't be better for high-rise. Its close to the station, tram stop, bus stops, people can bike and walk along the river, there are very few reasons for people to drive. Putting more people in this location will also be good for businesses in Rundle Mall and the revitalised Hindley Street.

Sleepy old Adelaide is really starting to grow up.

No I haven’t been in delusional land like our premiere

I also live in London. But no one from home has mentioned anything so I’m confused. South Australia has had a struggling economy for ages what changed ?

We now have the fastest growing economy in the nation and lowest unemployment rate. Yes, you read correctly, lowest unemployment rate in Australia

According to Principal’s Project Requirements tower 2 is planned to be a 35-storey building
...and if it is you'll probably be looking at our second tallest or temporary tallest if completed before the Masonic tower. My guess is this tower will be around 143-145 metres starting from plaza level.

Cheers
I wasn't far off the mark in height and wouldn't worry about the one metre that's required for it to be a skyscraper. Any tall structure planned and built for Adelaide higher than the State Bank/Santos/RAA building is a skyscraper for us.

Now wouldn't it be nice if the Riverside Centre was demolished and built taller. The InterContinental was reclad like the old AMP building so it wouldn't look so out of place. Then we'd have a cluster of ultra modern shiny structures for people to admire.

Not until our electricity prices are the cheapest and have water security for a growing population etc., we'll remain on that edge. So take everything with a pinch of salt. But let's gloat in this project and leave the economy and politics discussion where it belongs.

Cheers

I like the building but because I've been living in Jakarta much of this year, so personally , I prefer the design of their new towers a lot more than Adelaide's. Nothing wrong with this but I hate it when SA politicians and business people pump things up with FOMO. Adelaide's got a lot going for it already and this this development won't necessarily define the future of Adelaide. I am learning that you can achieve similar results of economic activity with very little resources.

Two queries though:
Firstly, how does a strong economy and low unemployed correlate with development on public land? What is the benefit to the public? For example, if the Masonic Lodge is including a view-deck and museum, what will this offer? Lang Walker has yet to gain his social license with the community, how does he plan on getting it?

Secondly, how does this contribute to the vision of being one of the "world's great squares" when the foot traffic currently isn't existent and the first tower has yet to produce the much anticipated economic activity as promised.

Won't comment on the politics etc., but when these two buildings will be full of people you can expect some of them to spend time at the plaza, As long as there are facilities at ground level for them to enjoy of course.
