Taken from UPARK Grote - cores are catching up to the brutalist Hilton
[U/C] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 130m | 39 levels
Does anybody know the timeline for the ground floor market opening? Will the street be returned to the public realm before the tower proper is complete?
[U/C] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 130m | 39 levels
The main tower is as wide as the renders indicate, I don’t think there are any surprises re its north face or south face width. It was always in the renders shown as a predominantly west oriented structure….with the lower levels facing east having any views obstructed by the Hilton….

I didn’t know that the tower was going to be a hotel? Wasn’t it supposed to be residences??
The fuck do we need another hotel for? Make it apartments.

It's both.VinyTapestry849 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 8:53 pmI didn’t know that the tower was going to be a hotel? Wasn’t it supposed to be residences??

Yep the tower is pretty much 50/50 residences v hotel rooms according to these numbers.
The laneway will be great - no need to battle the market crowds to cut through from Gouger to Grote.

You were right about this from timtam’s earlier photo.Dvious wrote:Looks like some sort of test/mock up piece. Looks nice!
Close up photo and info below from Woods Bagot - May update:
“Brick prototyping is now underway for the signature redbrick arches in the Market Hall, with the brick façade due to be laid in the coming weeks following the steel installation.”

Also:
“Along with the market makeover, the development is delivering an all-electric commercial office tower, rooftop garden, hotel, and 234 new apartments over 35 storeys. Once completed, the site will offer double the floorspace of the existing market, set to be a fresh food mecca for local artisan producers.”

I’m still confused by how the tower will look. I haven’t seen super clear renders. The renders above have this white facade I hadn’t really seen before

Great to see the actual market stalls/kiosks being expanded too.
This will be an experience once completed - it may prove incentive to have the other part of the Central Market redeveloped and eventually China Town too.

For what it's worth, during Gather Round, Adelaide hotels were pretty much at 100% capacity.VinyTapestry849 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 8:53 pmI didn’t know that the tower was going to be a hotel? Wasn’t it supposed to be residences??
