I gave up reading this thread long ago and haven't kept up with developments. I vaguely remember the final design chosen (which I didn't like) so excuse my following comments as ignorant, but is all that grey stuff concrete? If so it's one big step backwards. Also have they narrowed (to two lanes) and rounded the Wakefield/Grote roadway that cuts across the square?
Cheers

If it is pavers it's going to be slightly better than solid concrete, however there seems to be a lot of them. I hope Vic Square doesn't turn out to be a heat sink!
Cheers

I think its looking really good, however looking from above we wonder why its called a square lol and I wish they would just permantly close off the centre road, don't hear any whingers at moment, and its been closed to most of the traffic for a while now....its just a hobby in Adelaide to jump up and down for a while over nothing.

The arbors in Stage 2 will shade a lot of the concourses which will be paved in granite. Meanwhile the central grassed area, water features and the temporary shade structures should cool it down in the summer.

Im looking forward to seeing this done.
Ive heard that in a couple of years the council is planning a big upgrade of the entrance that faces the square so it will be interesting how this is integrated.

Neat!
This picture looks really cool. The gloomy overcast conditions contrasts like crazy with the unicorn-barf coloured giant Christmas tree... It makes the Hilton stand out like dog's balls, though. Hahaha.

The council wants a lot of development on the site in a few years once leases are up. If it's well connected with the square it has a lot of promise.
