Hi Guys.

This is a big one... I am pretty sure 100m+

It has been referred to the Civil Aviation Authority.

I am trying to get heights as we speak.

Can't be a april fools joke its ended.

I never thought of Hindley Street getting a 100m+ building and can Adelaide handle a hotel at that size considering the amount of hotels u/c or about to commence, unless its a mixed use tower.

However I look forward to hear more details, it would be great if this includes ground floor cafes or bars to make sure Hindley Street remains a entertainment strip.

No not at this stage but will dramatically improve that site and hopefully increase the safety of Hindley Street.

Wonder what chain it will be.

The only problem with this hotel development is that the hotel's north eastern view will be plan horrible as it will overlook the ugly blank concrete walls of the Blyth St carpark and Bank St motel. Unless the building will extend all the way to the carpark, but it would still overlook the concrete wall of the motel.

It is really depressing that view, I'll try and get a shot of it tommorow.

Fantastic news :!: :!: Hope it is not affected by the flow on from Brisbane's property crash - only 5 of 25 future bldgs going up. That end of town will get a big lift in the skyline and nightlife.

Was'nt there a similar sized resi bldg planned somewhere around the carpark behind the church facing Nth Tce?
(Therefore on Morhett ST and not far from this site from memory). Not much said about it at the time and it disappeared into the haze of forgetfulness.

Thanks for the info Ben. That is a significant size for that area and will have a big impact on the northern skyline. Adelaide's northern skylie is looking more and more aged as the years go by, southern, eastern and western skyline perspectives are getting the majority of the new buildings. We really need 20-22 Currie Street, the North Terrace student apartments and this one, if it is a decent design, to go ahead and modernise our northern skyline.

That's a very decent size for Hindley St; I keenly await renders!

Sounds like it will be similar to the existing SA Water design...

From the Messenger:
Hindley hotel joins in boom

Chris Day

01Apr08

A NEW 283-room hotel is planned for Hindley St, the latest in a hotel development boom in the city.

Hotelier John Culshaw, who owns the Majestic Rooftop Hotel on Frome St, lodged plans with the City Council last month for a $65 million, 20-level hotel.

It would be built at the corner of Hindley and Blyth streets, next to the Berkeley Hotel. The site is currently occupied by a cafe, a tailor and a bookshop.

Mr Culshaw was reluctant to talk about the project in detail last week but said it would "revitalise Hindley St".

"This is the one that will really get (the street) going and all the other businesses will get their acts together," he said.

The hotel's triangular design would see each floor stepped back towards North Tce.

At 80m high, it is about 30m above the council's height limit for the area and would need public consultation before being assessed by the council.

Meanwhile, developer Adabco will this month start work on transforming the Colonial Mutual Life building in King William St into a 165-room hotel.

Other major hotels are also proposed in Hindmarsh Square and at the former Westpac building, at the corner of King William St and North Tce.

Eight out of 10 rooms in major Adelaide hotels were fully occupied last year, according to the Australian Hotels Association (SA).

It was a rise of 2 per cent compared with 2006 and 10 per cent higher than in 2004.

AHA CEO Ian Horne was cautious about a rush in new hotels.

"If all these projects go ahead then the accommodation market would have a glut of supply again," he said.

"It would require additional funds from the State Government to enhance conference facilities, and attract new major sporting events, to justify further expansion."

"The hotel's triangular design would see each floor stepped back towards North Tce."

I can't picture what they mean with this...
Can someone with a touch more brain power than myself explain this better?
