Can I ask what people dislike about the hotel specifically? Is it because it's not clad in floor to roof glass and therefore not shiny?
That odd angle on the far right of the render is far more interesting than anything on the office tower, and I'm much more keen to see it from various angles to see how it fits together. It's hard to tell the finish from the renders, but if they leave it raw concrete rather than the usual paint, I'll be very happy (plus in context, it will fit in much better with what UniSA has been doing in the last decade).

Looks heaps better than what's there guys, will be great to see another couple of tower cranes in the west end and on private work. The decision to build a new hospital, SAMRI, and extend the tram are really starting to pay dividends.

Looks good to me - a lot of bulk but with the traditional 18 floors ceiling seen again. The pub seems dwarfed and out of place.
BTW - Since I have joined this site in 2006 I have noticed a major shift towards a development of NW sector much more than anywhere else. If it continues the central section of the city may move in this direction as well.

I think the proposed changes to Hindley Street between Morphett & West Tce will really change the look of the area and hopefully encourage even more development in the area.
Uni SA is really the main driver at this stage, but with the new RAH and then if Waymouth Street development continues further west this side of town might get a good boost.
We just need to encourage the council to do something with the old bus depot & Baulfours sites. I can't believe they have left these sites in the state they are in.
Back to this development, I think it looks good. I am not sure though about the government stumping up for the underpass.

I guess they are not going to win any awards for architecture yet such great news for a development of that size in that location. Would have a massive impact. $150 Million for 2 buildings of that size is not much at all, so will be average aesthetically. I think its great just to see the corner finally being built on.

This is a bigger concern to me than the designs. I'm sure it'll be decent.Ben wrote:I don't see Adelaide having a need for 38,000sqm of office space anytime soon eithier.

I bet that if/when they build that underpass, which will probably pass underneath the tram stop, they will forget to include stairs/lifts to reach the tram platforms, similar to the Adelaide Railway Station underpass which runs right underneath the tram stop and City West where they could have put in stairs to the Morphett St Bridge.

I'd be gobsmacked if they built that much office space on the edge of the CBD! That's more space than Westpac House.Shahkar wrote:This is a bigger concern to me than the designs. My tip is that the office component will be substantially scaled back and replaced with apartments, for which I would imagine there would be strong demand in that location.

There is absolutely no need for the Railway Station underpass to have stairs up to the tram stop, it's only separated from the train station by a single well lit pedestrian crossing.metro wrote:I bet that if/when they build that underpass, which will probably pass underneath the tram stop, they will forget to include stairs/lifts to reach the tram platforms, similar to the Adelaide Railway Station underpass which runs right underneath the tram stop and City West where they could have put in stairs to the Morphett St Bridge.

But that pedestrian crossing causes many people to miss the trams while they're waiting for the lights to change.Nort wrote:There is absolutely no need for the Railway Station underpass to have stairs up to the tram stop, it's only separated from the train station by a single well lit pedestrian crossing.metro wrote:I bet that if/when they build that underpass, which will probably pass underneath the tram stop, they will forget to include stairs/lifts to reach the tram platforms, similar to the Adelaide Railway Station underpass which runs right underneath the tram stop and City West where they could have put in stairs to the Morphett St Bridge.
A bigger objection is that an entrance from the underpass could be a very big obstacle to lengthening the platform.

Walked this site on the weekend, it is a lot larger than I envisaged and will make a huge positive impact in the West End. I am guessing what office space they don't fill with medical related the Uni may take.

Article in today's Commercial section of the paper confirming that Quest is planning to occupy the hotel component of this development.
