Thanks Done, I'm a bit of a lurker too. I wish I knew more about architecture to make some insightful comments, and I wish I was able to come across more renders. Anyone know of some good books to read? Will your new render show the middle tower is to be taller than the other two?

Great job Done
I agree the design is slightly conservative and a bit 'eighties' however i like the glass. A lot of recent towers have glass that is far too transparent, this glass appears more reflective and would create a nice change to the prodominant stone appearance of buildings in this area. Is the facade on the western, northern and eastern elevations glass too? Any ugly black walls anywhere? This one sounds promising, hopefully something comes of it.

i have been away for awhile so i am trying to picture the building's context and relationship with other taller buildings? I also trying to understand its relationship with the City West development ie is a cluster forming in this part of the CBD?
Initial thoughts is that the building's angular form is trying to hard to pick up and articulate the church, although it may just be the render. I do like the less transparent glass but strongly dislike mirrored glass, as this combined with the rectangular design and flush, simple roof form screams 1980's Houston.
Personally, i would prefer a more organic form with height and floor level variation at roof top - imagine 'sky' penthouses with 360 views of adelaide!!, however, i suspect cost and design constraints negate this.

I was thinking the same thing. This render looks more like an office tower than a hotel. Will this building be incorporated somehow with the church or will it simply be very near to it?Pikey wrote:Just found it, isn't this at the Bus Station site????
What the?

Just as a reference... a picture of the bus station + balfours development featuring the church in the foreground.

If anything the design wouldn't compliment the design of the rest of the precinct. I'm all for glass, but this just looks like a rip off of the Golden Hilton in Melbourne.
Sheer, highly reflective glass, yes, but much more, sharper, modern lines. Use the shapes of the church to their advantage, something much more striking could be used here.
More info would be great though, nice height.

Ummmm... pretty sure that whole area is supposed to be open public space? Dont know about getting an approval to build 60m tower in a park.... But hey I dont work for ACC so what do I know, I guess it could be done.
