Lots of crane tower parts have arrived on site this morning, with a mobile crane on site to do the lifting. Will try to take some pictures later today once they start putting it altogether.

Could one of the mods please edit those previous posts so the pics display correctly (ie sized, so no scrolling is required)?

Further, as I too struggle with getting pics up properly, can someone please post a short tutorial, we could even sticky it if possible.

Fixed - I think :)

Nice pics too by the way guys. Still think this is going to be a hammer head crane.

I was in town tonight, and on the way home I took a detour through ANgas Street, and yes, I can report that the crane is indeed, a hammer-head crane.

I noticed this crane also has Neon "Commerical & General" signage on it.

Only the left side building has had the piling done and all construction appears to have been for this one building so maybe SAPOL have only committed to one of the buildings? Not sure if there is any way to confirm this?

The latest nearmap view of the site http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-34.929572,1 ... d=20100216 also shows the progress so far.

Yeah, only one building is U/C at the moment, the one SAPOL will lease.

Jim wrote:It would be nice to see the relocation of the office activities associated with police barracks on Port road to this proposed new building; this ( police barracks) must be one of the worst collections of buildings in Adelaide on such a high profile site.
Now that the tram extension to the Entertainmant Centre is nearing completion, is it time to re-visit Jim's comments on the ramshackle collection of old buildings (a complete eyesore) which make up the police barracks on Port Road?

Not sure if this is the right thread for this.
This site is crying out for a cleanup/redevelopment/change of purpose more in keeping with its highly visible and desirable location. This would add to the re-generation of this near city location and capitalise on the buzz associated with the tram extension and Ent. Centre upgrade.
The Old Adelaide Gaol (Tourism) and ex-SA Water site (Recreation and possible Education use) could be included in a new vision for this valuable inner western precinct.

I think all it needs is a fresh coat of paint, a new fence and some rudimentary landscaping. With that, the style of the heritage buildings will come through.
