this just reeks of more nanny state rubbish.
the issue needs to be pushed back, initially onto parents who should be teaching their kids about alcohol and then onto the individual who is responsible for their actions.
I'm sick to death of having to suffer because of other peoples actions and inability to take responsibility for themselves.

I agree but these are distressing statistics that I don't think can be ignored. A lot of parents are not drumming this stuff into their kids and all too soon those kids, when they venture into the real world of alcohol (and drugs), just end up in trouble.
-one in seven emergency department visits on a Saturday night are alcohol related, and in some areas the rate is as high as one in three.
• one in four hospitalisations of young people aged 15-24 years occurs because of alcohol. Hospital emergency staff are regularly confronted with the acute and chronic complications of alcohol.
• One in five Australians aged 14 years and above drink at a level that puts them at risk of harm from alcohol-related disease or injury over their lifetime.
• One in three 14 to 19 year olds drink alcohol in a way that places them at risk of an alcohol-related injury from a single drinking occasion at least once a month

I know parents aren't but we should be 'encouraging' them to.
I'm not questioning the statistics merely complaining that we go down the typical path of impacting everyone else rather than addressing the problem.
It just gets tiring having to pay the price because other peoples behavior

Haha, I must say that I was none the wiser as to what 'placemaking' was all about having read your note on it, David. Perhaps I should have paid more attention in my marketing classes at university, but it may as well have been written in a foreign language!
Immensely look forward to any news regarding the old bus station site when council is in a position to do so; absolute eyesore as it stands and such a waste of space.

There was a proposal for park lets on Ebernezer Pl and Union St? Shame they aren't proceeding as I'm sure they would have been great spots for some.
Even though I don't go to either event, I don't believe that we should banish them from the parklands. I do agree though that the impact on the parklands needs to be managed, running back to back music festivals on the exact same location with little to no remediation from the organisers isn't good.

David makes an important point in his last notes.
LOCAL DEMOCRACY UNDER THREAT
Council rate-capping is a very blunt instrument and nothing more than a cheap appeal to the populist vote. More to the point, it strikes at the very fundamentals of Local Government.
To shackle Councils in the way proposed by the Liberals is an insult to elected members and to the integrity of the ratepayers who elected them (albeit by a small % - bring on compulsory voting) I don't hear any similar rigour being applied to state taxes and charges or any suggestion that State taxes and levies should be subject to capping by Canberra...
Sadly this kind of populist vote grabbing works.
Also to note was that neither the Libs or Labor responded to the Council's formal questions spoken about previously.

Why on earth would councillors need free parking in the CBD anyway? Surely public transport, cycling or walking is far more viable for people who presumably live within the ACC area?

Hello David,
Firstly thank you for posting your council updates, very interesting reading most of the time.
I noticed in the last notes there is reference to not commuting to sound wave festival next year pending a sound engineer report.... Was there an issue/ complaint from this year? And do this investigation/reports occur for most events in the parklands?, I am unfimilar with this process.

Changes to the NE corner of hindmarsh square sound good, David. Are there any artistic impressions of how it may look? Reducing the size of the mound is a great idea, should make that intersection feel a bit more park-like!

Game day and your blinkered game day parking restrictions leaves not only North Adelaide streets but car parks empty too! How does this help revitalise the city or bring patrons to North Adelaide cafés.

I may have spoken too soon, despite the ACC parking restrictions, I am sitting in Primo Melbourne street, and I would have to say there is quite a buzz, there must be and extra 15-20 Power supporters in tonight, a few more across the road at the Old Lion and lots more Power and Crows walking home, I guess the Crows fans are just keen to get home to drown their sorrows.
