Ah, so that's what that thing was. I thought so. It's in the first video.

- Further digging has commenced on the southern side
- Traffic is still flowing through OK, even during peak.

Interesting that they've put the lights up first. I would have thought that would be a later stage.

Not the best of comparisons, but these two views show some changes that have occurred in the past year. The first image is courtesy of OzRoads.

Little bit offtopic but check out the video of a complete navigation of the sydney orbital motorway. Especially the tunnels, now that is some REAL road infrastructure (not they they dont have problems) :-)

A $19.70 end to end toll on South Road would be a bit rude even if it was a freeway.

The Roe highway from Welshpool Road to the Kwinana Freeway in Perth also makws for nice driving. There's no tunnels though and no tolls, yet.

$19.70 in Sydney is for a 110km drive, and South Road/Salisbuty Hwy/Southern Xpressway is nowhere near the distance of the sydney orbital.

I think south road should be turned into a new citylink like melbourne, linking salisbury hwy to southern expressway, and possibly tolled (2-5 bucks) to avoid everyone hopping off PT and using the roads. This would help out commercial vehicles alot, as well as cross city travellers. There would be heaps of people that have to drive Elizabeth to Noarlunga to visit relatives etc, and this would help them out alot.

If a route was to be tolled it would be from Norlunga to the Gawler Bypass with the northern section being the new northern gateway (Sturt Highway Extention + New Port Wakefield Road). A total distance of about 70-80km I would estimate.

By the time South Road is upgraded to a free flowing route the toll might be $197.

Wow drsmith....tolling the WHOLE THING will sure to get everyone out of their cars to get to work.

A toll will only work here in Adelaide if the government also announced plans for a HUGE upgrade/overhaul to our PT system. I think people here are starting to realise that PT is soo much cheaper than $1.45/l petrol + city parking, however our PT system is far too inadequate to support higher percentages of commuters using it (Its barely coping as it is and we have to highest percentage of commuters who drive in the country!). If our PT system stays as it is, and we have to pay to drive....then there will be war on the streets!!

Oh well, at least then they won't be able to call us 'sleepy' old Adelaide any more :D

A South Road diversion has been constructed across the new culverts in Brown Hill Creek, west of existing road, and looked ready to be cut in when I saw it Friday.

I think that's more of an entrance, I would hope they have the entire new western road alignment done when they open on that side.
