This project has gone by a lot quicker than I initially thought. Any clue as to when the western deviation will open?

By end of July, as far as I can tell, to allow commencement of Stage 2, which includes the remaining section of bridge deck.Shuz wrote:This project has gone by a lot quicker than I initially thought. Any clue as to when the western deviation will open?
Are those large water tanks going to be part of the overpass structure? sustainability perhaps?Xaragmata wrote:Western deviation is kerbed & partially paved north of Anzac Highway, and reinforcing for bridge deck is largely complete.

In conjunction with the release of the ‘Strategic Infrastructure Plan for South Australia’ in 2005, the Rann Government announced its intention to create a non-stop North-South corridor between the Southern Expressway and the Port River Expressway. We have committed hundreds of millions for major projects along South Road, including an underpass at Anzac Highway, the Glenelg Tram Overpass project and an underpass at Sturt Road. The Federal Rudd Labor Government has recognised the importance of a North-South Road corridor to South Australia andhas committed $500 million through Auslink to partner the State Government on this corridor.
The Federal government’s $500 million will be provided between now and 2014, and will be used to remove key bottlenecks along the corridor.
$70 million has been committed to planning for a corridor all the way from the Southern Expressway to the Port River Expressway. The study will be the first step in making the project a reality, and include geotechnical investigations, community consultation, environmental assessments, traffic modelling and detailed cost estimates. At this point in time the nature and timing of potential improvements to the section of South Road in the vicinity of the tram overpass to provide the non-stop flow are yet to be determined however the tram overpass structure will be able to accommodate a wider South Road.

Key notes:
- South Road tunnel under Port and Grange Roads appears scrapped?
Tram overpass will accomodate a wider South Road = meaning further property acquisition in future.
Thanks, Norman. I'll check it out, now my head cold is gone.Norman wrote:The southern side of the bridge overpass has now been concreted, and is almost ready for use.
Thanks Norman, you have captured it very well! The Big Dig will start in earnest in a few weeks.Norman wrote:No need, I already have, pics coming later.
