Why would you want another O-Bahn?
Horrible things they are! Trains serve the exact same useful purpose with the ability of carrying larger capacities in any one load.

I just thought I would let you all know. 2 of the 6 2000 series railcars that have been withdrawn for 10 years are nearly ready to re enter service and were seen in Adelaide railway station this morning. 2003 and 2104 were the railcars seen and will soon be joined by 2103 to make a 3 car set. Another 3 car set formed of 2112-2006-2116 is still being worked on. It is more then likely that both sets will be used mainly on the Noarlunga line. One more 2000 class is stored and that is 2009 however, it is not going to see service being used for spare parts and is missing one power bogie and so is sitting on a normal freight bogie at one end.
The 2 3 cars sets are being given an overhaul and have been modified with brighter interiors (new paint and also new seat covers) but are generally as they were bar the 'Admet' yellow/red/blue livery. One would hope that an additional 6 railcars (boosting the total fleet for 93 to 99) will ease the congestion for a while down south.

Thats the best they can do? Give us 10 year old railcars with 'bright interiors'?
Get on with it already!

But the O-Bahn is allowed to travel faster than the trains in Adelaide. Plus then you don't have connections, and in turn have more services and more flexibility, which means more people would use it.

Well, needless to say. I don't think any future State Goverment (or current) will look into the construction of another OBahn. They were those 80's things that got built and now is a 'mistake' of the past. I do remember one of the Goverments (think it was former Liberals) said it was a terrible idea for its time.

The Liberals planned and started building it. Labor hesitated to continue, but went along.
It's a fantastic piece of work. It just needs a centralised station in town so people don't have to queue up and waste time boarding.

They have just been out of service for 10 years, they are only a couple of years off 30!

speaking of public transports, does anyone know if pets are actually allowed into the bus? I saw someone letting their pet dog to the Bee Line, well, through the rear door. Perhaps the driver didn't notice there was actually a dog in the bus, but is that illegal? It didn't say so in the bus?

On any form of public transport be it train, bus or tram, the only animals allowed onboard are guide dogs. Every other pet (except for perhaps a Goldfish you just got at the pet shop) is banned.
Ideas for a greater public transport system

Seeing that alot of people (myself included) think our public transport system is in a dying need of an upgrade. It will be good to see some possible upgrades that we could do to improve services.
One thing could be done to our bus system is to create suicide lanes (and adding lanes where practical) on ALL major inner arterial roads and to put alternating suicide bus lanes to allow buses to be a more attractive means of transport. Also 15 min go zones are made to seem sooo good but 4 buses an hour is still crap. A major focus should be to put suicide lanes in the city roads that buses travel on. Also could buses possibly drive on the tram tracks on king william like on jetty road??? If so, then make the tram tracks a bus only lane.
Not only would this be effictive but quite cheap to implement.
Any other suggestions for bus, or rail??

crikeys, where do we start
Extension of Noarlunga train line to Seaford
Develop a bus/train interchange at Tonsley/Darlington
Electrify the rail system
Upgrade stations so that they actually look in use
Underground rail loop in city to end the 'dead end' station situation and bring rest of CBD closer to trains, 4 stations at cnr Rundle Mall/Pulteney St, southern end of Hindmarsh Sq near Pirie St, Victoria Sq, cnr Grote St/Morphett for Central Market/Balfours/bus station development, and then meet up with southern lines near Keswick.
Possible line from Albert Park to Football Park/West Lakes Mall
Possibly introduce a regular train service to Mount Barker and Barossa Valley
I believe our bus system is not too bad, but many bus routes are becoming congested, but what do we do with the Obahn? keep it or change to a rail line?

I'd like to see a seperate inner metro and outer metro system, trams servicing the city and the Port, Marion Shopping Centre, AAMI Stadium, Mawson Lakes, The Parade, Glen Osmond, etc, and electric long distance trains servicing Noarlunga, Hallett Cove, Gawler, Elisabeth, Seaford and a fast-track to Mount Barker (along the freeway) and to Victor Harbour (running once or twice a day)

All ideas seem very good and very doable.
Considering cars can drive on tram tracks we could lay tram tracks and wires in the o-bahn so that both buses and trams can use it. That will be good for the north east.
