A man has been arrested after a break-in at the GPO building in Adelaide’s CBD caused major flooding, resulting in a six-figure damage bill.

About 5.30am on Monday, police were called to the prominent business on Franklin St after reports of a break-in and damage to a vehicle parked out the front.

When police arrived they found a large amount of damage to a revolving door, a car parked outside with a smashed windscreen and damage to a second door along a laneway.

Inside they also found damage to fire extinguishers and water valves, which caused flooding inside the building.

Crime scene investigators remained at the scene for several hours as MFS firefighters and SES personnel continued the clean-up.

Police found a 36-year-old Victorian man inside the building – he was arrested and charged with three counts of property damage and serious criminal trespass.

He is expected to be refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

What a fucking idiot. Only months after the hotel has opened.
Looks to be the GPO office building next door, and not the hotel that was impacted.
