I think the reason is that the the tour down under in a different sort of race than the tour of france, italy or spain. The tour down under is more of a flat sprinters race not a mountain climbing race like the tour of france. What's the point of the world's best tour of france winners comming here when they are mountain climbers not sprinters, so they would probably loose anyway and would want to train for events like the tour of france which they will win.

The tour down under has some of the world's best sprinters e.g. Robbie McEwen.

P.S. I found it funny that a person form melbourne on the adelaide now site said the tour down under was a joke.
What do they think is better there crap z grade jayco-herald sun tour. HAahahahahha

But we cannot forget the fact that at the time of the tour, Test Cricket and Australian Open was on, all at the same time. :wank: :wank: :wank:

And am I right that the city round this year has a different route compared to 2007? Because in 2007, the route covers the northern part of the CBD, which covers the St. Peter's Cathedral in the city, which was awesome.

The 2008 city route was pretty lame, there is nothing much to be showcased there, hardly see any CBD at all, or anything interesting along the route.
Yeah the other route was better for promoting the state, I reckon if the cricket wasn't on they would of used it.

Maybe they could use the East End route next year, but include the eastern end of North Terrace. Now that would be the best promotion for the state and great to watch :D
All I saw on 2008 city routes were trees along Hutt St and the cafes, although it looks good first hand, but not so in the telly.

Steleras, riders don't look at sceneries but tv audiences do. This year, what had been showcased of city route tour looks more like a country town to me.
