Very excited about this one. Would have to be sleek high end design. ANOTHER 40 level bldg.. and on KWS. Will give a real urban 'feel/backdrop to the street. If this goes up with all the proposals for 30+ floor bldgs it will amount to 8, 3 of which will have a similar height as the current tallest! As said some days ago the young people are perceiving the city is on the move. Can't wait to see the renders. The one on shutter stock is great.

ADELAIDE - TOWARDS A GREATER CITY SKYLINE

I agree, it's about time we got an observation deck here in Adelaide.

I dunno if an observation deck is viable, but definitely a sky-high restaurant would be.

State Labor Government should have mandated that Walker put an observation deck and restaurant on the top levels of the proposed office building in the Riverbank.

At 108m, not the tallest building in Adelaide I know, but it would have been in the best location for breathtaking views, and enhanced the tourism potential of the riverbank. Oh well, it's a lost opportunity now.

Observation decks are hard yakka to make viable. The top floor is both the highest value and most expensive to build. You need serious high volume, high value patronage to get over the opportunity cost of leasing/selling premium office space or a penthouse for instance, and also assume ongoing running costs. It'd be a nice spot for a view, but a good business? Doubt it.

Is there any public space (bar, restaurant, viewing deck, whatever) in the CBD now or in the foreseeable future with views to the gulf and beaches?

Maybe top floor function room at the Pullman (formerly Crowne Plaza), Starlight Room, Rydges Hotel South Tce... but the best cafe/restaurant views are outside CBD - Mt Lofty Summit or Windy Point..... and closer to the coast there’s always the revolving restaurant...!

Revolving restaurants high in buildings were "a thing" thirty+ years ago. Now that the country is full of retired people and millennials who dine out a lot more than we used to, nobody finds the incentive to build a new one when there are taller buildings around. Perhaps we need more architectural communications towers instead of office and apartment towers. Black Mountain Tower in Canberra and CN Tower in Toronto don't have competing demands for penthouse or office suites.

I don't come to Adelaide to see communications towers and boring things. I go to Canberra for that.

Side note: It's interesting that you never hear of meth labs in prime real estate.

2KW has some good views, and oddly enough I find the southern stand bar at the Adelaide Oval to have some of the best CBD views. Every time I'm around the Adelaide riverbank I can't help but feel disappointed, it could be so much more but it's completely wasted. I haven't followed the plaza redevelopment thread but I hope we're aiming towards something like Southbank in Melbourne.
