Peter Alexander store walls have come down, store looks very small.
[U/C] Re: Burnside Village (Extension)
Quick one from tonight showing the almost-completed pavers, planter boxes and front window display/light boxes.

The bottom 3-4 metres of the corner wall mural is now black
Will get a pic next time I'm passing in daylight.

I reckon you can see the black being painted on your photos from the beginning of this month.
[U/C] Re: Burnside Village (Extension)
Given that the opening is now only 5 weeks away, the lack of formal announcements in regards to expansion and the new stores is concerning.
Last year there was an update every month on their website, but since December it's all gone completely silent.
You tend to get the sense that it's potentially not turned out as they hoped it would in terms of securing tenants.

I’ve seen the list of 50 or so tenants and it’s quite disappointing, there’s 80 new tenants in total 15 are reserved for luxury brands yet to sign up then the rest are just unleased fronts.

Was driving my mum somewhere the other day, went past the shopping centre. She called the mural a horrible eyesore… I tend to agree

The state of luxury fashion is appalling. I don't know if you've see Kerrings' latest quarterly report, released yesterday but all of their key players are down, especially Gucci.
https://uk.fashionnetwork.com/news/Keri ... 22991.html
LVMH also down:
https://www.fashiondive.com/news/lvmh-f ... ry/738547/
Adelaide has room for luxury growth as we have so little of it in the city but until things turn around, I don't see these brands investing in a city like ours. The 2010's saw a huge boom in luxury fashion; however, with Covid messing with most of the world's economies and cost of goods/prices going up, there is a real disdain for luxury goods. People are turning to other avenues/brands.
I don't know if any of you are familiar with HARROLDS, Australia's answer to luxury fashion, located in Sydney and Melbourne, but it has shut its operations. A big blow for the Aus lux market.
Interesting times ahead. I feel like for Burnside it may be a blessing in disguise. Better to fill these shops up with stable brands and then make way for the luxury stores when they are in a better place. It would have been such a shame to see them open only to close months later.

I'm of the opinion that the decision to not include a cinema complex in this development has ultimately hurt it (not to mention COVID-19).
Consider this, a cinema guarantees at-least 300 patrons on any given day but A LOT more on weekends, and evenings; if you're a restaurant or cafe setting up on Level 2 of this extension, that's foot traffic that's hard to beat and all from one tenant, that same patronage of a cinema (plus the cafes/restaurants) also has the opportunity to flow onto retail surrounding both.
Whilst PalaceNova are at EastEnd, ten years ago they were looking to expand into the eastern suburbs with an offer to buy the Chelsea Cinema at Kensington from the City of Burnside. I suspect if the right offer and space became available they would definitely jump on it and if you've been to PalaceNova Prospect on Wed-Sat evening it's packed with Gen Ys and on weekends it's a flurry of seniors groups. With ample FREE parking on site it also makes this a more attractive option than Hoyts at Norwood.
Of course there are other factors at play here, for instance, the management of Burnside Village were eventually going to be humbled by the reality that Adelaide doesn't have the mass demand for luxury brands and their centre will eventually need to open its doors to lower-tier offerings. I also think that if they're to expand further (as per the masterplan whereby the next stage will take the southern half of the centre to a second floor) they need to consider what people use every day, a suburban format David Jones above Coles seems like an obvious choice, as well as more homewares, sports specialty etc.

Yes… we are aware of your concern about a lack of cinema. You’ve said it six times. It was a bad decision. Burnside seems to be continuing its tradition of being an empty, white elephant with poorly thought out management
I wonder if watches of Switzerland even gonna bother staying

I'd also question the value of the foot traffic it would have brought. Does Burnsides attempt to present this as a high end luxury development gain anything from groups of teenagers wandering around?VinyTapestry849 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 8:54 pmYes… we are aware of your concern about a lack of cinema. Sure it likely would when they inevitably need to open the center to wider offerings to fill the space, but it would have been counter to that initial plan.

Not so much old people, but cashed up seniors looking to catch up over a wine and a National Theatre Live, Met Opera, Art-house film. It's what the Trak opposite survived on for years, they only failed due to bad business decisions and seeing the writing on the wall if a cinema were to open opposite.Nort wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 8:21 amI'd also question the value of the foot traffic it would have brought.
