I've heard today that the Portrush/Greenhill Rd corner mural is temporary. The corner is meant to have Louis Vuitton branding but timing did not align, so the wave/reflection imagery is a placeholder. Apparently LV are still intending to move into the new section of the centre, but it will be "among the last to open" because "it's a pretty big store".
I’ve been saying this for months it was obvious in the original plans, but will be waiting till July next year for it to be done when the luxury corner of shops open.
I doubt having an ugly mural for 12-18 months (or more) was part of any plan. There was meant to be cut out windows & doors as well so it won't be a quick/easy transition if and when LV decide to move into that corner spot. Seems to me the big name brands are dragging their feet to see who else signs up, and perhaps reconsidering signing on altogether.

Guess what, Rundle mall have just announced they going to demolish part of the David Jones complex and build a multi story luxury retail precinct.
Is this the final nail in the coffin for Burnside? Considering Rundle Mall have got like 600,000 people walking past each week.

Why do you seem so anti Burnside Village? I think Burnside Village will be a drawcard.
In my opinion, it’s smaller fashion centres like Metro on Unley Rd which will be in trouble and lose trade (it’s a quiet centre already). I predict in 5 years time the Metro site will have been redeveloped into an apartment complex, like the block just down the road.

I’m concerned that it will split up our luxury retail offerings, I would rather than be concentrated in all in one place.
Because they’re split up, both Rundle Mall and Burnside village will have challenges because of that

Do the people who have the money and inclination to buy this stuff go into physical stores anyway? Why mingle with the Great Unwashed when you can just buy online and get it overnighted from Melbourne or Italy or wherever. I also wonder if some involved in this project incorrectly assumed that because Burnside is a "rich" suburb, locals are going to be regularly popping down to drop a few thousand on clothes and jewellery. In my experience the wealthiest people are often the tightest with their money.
Rundle Mall has the advantage of passing foot traffic, city workers, groups of teens catching public transport in to check out the brands they see people wearing on social media, etc. Burnside has easy parking, but if they only end up with one or two exclusive outlets amongst JB Hifi and homewares shops I'm not sure that will be enough of a draw. Not wishing them to fail but I'm skeptical Adelaide has the population to sustain the commercial viability of brands like LV and they might recant interest in setting up here.

I said the same thing a year ago and you totally scoffed at it. ‘Melbourne has their best offering in a mall, why can’t Adelaide’, or something to that effect. Why the cha te of heart?
