No event has been planned this year for the lighting of the tree.
The tree is under construction at the moment, and should be lit from 830pm until 2am when construction is completed.

Work underway on new Rundle Mall restaurant
Construction of Rundle Mall’s newest restaurant is now underway in the popular shopping strip’s eastern end, after the Adelaide City Council gave the project the green light late last year.
On-site work to build the restaurant is now in full swing and is expected to be complete by March, providing a covered outdoor eating area for 60 people.
The new restaurant will complement the existing Buskers restaurant which has successfully operated in the western end of Rundle Mall since December 2006, promoting greater foot traffic in that precinct.
Lord Mayor Michael Harbison said the new restaurant will add vibrancy and security to the eastern end of the Mall.
“This restaurant will certainly be an exciting addition to the eastern end of Rundle Mall, providing another eat-in option for that precinct,” said the Lord Mayor.
“Not only will it offer visitors a great spot to dine and enjoy the atmosphere and night life of the Mall, but its location adjacent to the Rundle Lantern will provide a great view of the light and colour show in the evening.
“Importantly, this restaurant will open every evening, and the increased number of people in that precinct will not only add to the vibe, but also contribute to the safety of the area.”
Great to see this is finally getting underway. But why stop at just 2 restaurants! Half a dozen Restaurants spread out down the centre of the mall would ensure that Rundle Mall became a destination for eateries in its own right rather than just a thoroughfare after the shops have closed.Ben wrote:Work underway on new Rundle Mall restaurant

They're already doing that AtD. Places that used to shut up shop on the Mall around 5:30 or 6:00 are staying open longer. There's more (pedestrian) life in the Mall after hours than I ever remember. Buskers seem to be crooning and plunking right up 'til around 10pm on Friday nights. Shuz, take a look at Bris. Q St. mall. It is about as wide as Rundle mall but has several cafes/eateries, news stands, buskers down a length about twice Rundle mall. etc with more people, but is not chaotic. Everyone seems to know intrinsically where to go - including myself. Very colourful and lively mall as a result. Businesses attract and 'feed' from each other well in Q St. Full of young people.Shuz wrote:As much as I am for more outdoor seating, it would impact on cross-traffic of the mall, and create congestion points elsewhere which, when busy is already pretty chaotic as it is.
More outlets should operate on the second floor, and if possible create walkways above the mall.
