thanks Will & Andy, we'll probably visit Mesa Lunga or similar in the CBD. Another that looks interesting is Casablaba. It's on Leigh St and has both an inside and outside eating area.

Will, the Semaphore Rd strip certainly has become a terrific destination (will only get better with time), but it's a tad too distant for our booze induced friday evening - the cava will be flowing freely, and my wife is insistent on visiting The Apothecary later in the evening.

Casablabla is a nice little loungey bar, but the food isn't that great. Mesa Lunga is probably the best in the CBD, but you can also find lovely tapa a little distance away at Osteria on Greenhill Rd or Sparrow on O'Connell St.

Speaking of Sparrow, check out Grace the Establishment, which opened not to long ago on The Parade (opposite Mary Martin). Same owners as Sparrow and The Manse. It's also a bit of a tapas place, but with more of an American inspiration.

And for those whom would rather make their own tapas, Adelaide now has a Spanish deli!:

Indonesian food is delicious and I'm surprised its so difficult to find as our nearest neighbor.

I've always wondered that too! We do a really poor job of understanding our northern neighbour...

I once ate at Pondok Bali on Pultney St and remembered the experience favourably -- though I haven't been there in years. That's pretty much the only Indonesian restaurant of which I'm aware, and even then (I'm led to believe) they specialise in Balinese fare.

i visited an indonesian restaurant in Gouger St a while back. Called a "Touch of Spice" from memory. food was good, also did indian food and generic 'western chinese food' (think lemon chicken).

There's a great Japanese place on Rundle Street. I forgot what it's called, but it's next to the Kwik Stix. Menu out the front (as the Japanese like to do), with great quality food and a nice list of sake and Sh?ch?. The woman who served us was really friendly and bounced around in that cute Japanese way when she was in a hurry. I really recommend everyone give it a go.

Are you sure they're Japanese? Most of the Japanese restaurants in Adelaide aren't run by Japanese people at all (or have Japanese chefs). The exception is Wasai, which is on Field St (off Gouger St).
My fiance is Japanese, and of all the Japanese restaurants we've tried here, they've been the best. She won't dare try the one on Rundle St.

Japanese? Kenji on Hutt St, go there now.

Kenji is great as well, as a modern take on Japanese. Whereas Wasai is more traditional.

As someone who has been to Japan, they certainly look Japanese.
