Also, should Council consider a tiered fee for renting parkland space depending upon the scale of the event? Larger events probably cause more damage and hence should pay an increased rental fee. I personally think it's great that our open spaces are being regularly used by the public - helps foster a larger sense of community in Adelaide residents. Maybe time for some events in the southern parklands to share the load around?

Your mention of the "cool profit" made from the Festival of sounds (I gathered, from the way you wrote it, that you think they are not being charged enough for the use of the park), however, didn't take into account the cost of running the event, other than the cost of leasing the park. The profit may not look quite so cool in reality.

Yes, this is not the first time he has misrepresented revenue as profit. The two are vastly different concepts and vastly different figures. Just because the latter is huge, it doesn't mean the former is even above zero.

Re VSQ Design Team, unfortunately I am bound by confidentiality clauses until the contract is formally signed. But this should be any day soon and I would expect to see a media release as soon as possible.

You used the word profit, I didn't! But the facts are, income from predicted ticket sales $680,000 (plus other sales on the day) compared to a Council fee of $2,500 for using Bonython Park for 3 days.

Perhaps the fees for such events should be based on the number of people attending, the impact on the event space, the length of the event and the number of days that the space is fenced off.

Regarding the façade of Harris Scarfe’s - this surely this must be saved. Here in the UK, places like Croydon in London knocked down their historical buildings, and in their place built at the time modern 60s high rises - it is now considered one of the most undesirable areas in London. The shine quickly wears of vacuous boxes.

This event will attract 8000 fans at $80 each; a cool $680000 in return for a paltry fee to use Bonython Park!

8,000 X 80 = 640,000

In accounting the term "return" is generally accepted to mean "profit". So you can see where the confusion lies.

Anyway; I don't think we should be focusing on how much money the event makes. That's by the by. The real argument here is that an event organiser should be paying a fee commensurate with the amount of reparations needed after the event, plus a small margin so the parklands don't go backward.

FYI - On the 25th of April, ANZAC Day, Emily and I welcomed Oliver Alexander Stephen Yarwood.

Mum and Oliver are both doing very well – a public holiday for his birthday every year when the Australian spirit is celebrated and the bars do beer for breakfast…nice one Digger!

After reading your information David I found that Adelaide's projected population for 30 yrs hence is 2m.with an increase of 560000 from now. Is it a fact that Adelaide now has 1 440 000. Currently I thought that it was well under 1 200 000 - where does your figure come from - surely not the Adelaide Statistical Division used by the ABS???
