There's probably also 5000 like minded people who are for this development too. Who's to say you're right?

Actually it's probably more like 1,138,833 people who are for this development ;) Plus it's a complying development.. comparisons to Gold Coast are really silly we're talking 42m not 240m.

Lol have you ever been to the Gold Coast?. Glenelg will NEVER be anything like the Gold Coast. What with it's 5 or 6 high rise (12 level) buildings. That's the funniest thing I have ever heard.

Does anyone have some new renders of what this would look like?

I must admit that interensting buildings need to be constructed to help generate extra vibe in the area. The thing that really amazes me is that the Grand was build maybe 20 years ago, and has a higher hight limit than the other recently constructed developments.

How the hell does that work?

NOT IN MY BACKYARD !!!

It's an ugly coastline. The buildings block all the sunlight in the afternoon.

There is a vast difference between Glenelg and the Gold Coast, making such a comparision is like comparing apples to oranges. Allow me to demonstrate.

How do you justify your opinion that low-scale density (eg: suburbia) is a sustainable lifestyle measure, considering the impacts of accelerated population growth, global warming and commuter travel issues? Surely you must be conscious of your children and grandchildren's future, and I would hope that you want them to be brought up in a sustainable world. I think people like you, and your 5000 like-minded friends need to be conscious of others and how this affects them. This development is merely adressing these concerns, by reducing the need for extra infrastructure to be built (at your expense, keep in mind!), by reducing carbon footprints with environmentally friendly measures, by increasing the concentration of people in a location for public transport to be utilised to their maximal potential, I could go on and on.

Again, this is 42m, the Gold Coast's tallest tower is 323m. You have absolutely nothing to worry about when it comes to 'hi-rise living' (this is considered medium density development by the way) and I'm sure buildings can't even be built higher then they already are because of airspace limations with the flight path in close proximity. And as for sunlight concerns in the afternoon - it sets in the west, unless your smoking something and hallucinating otherwise...

Tell this to your friends, and be honest, tell us then how many still agree with your perspective.

This was posted earlier in the thread. As far as I'm aware, this is the latest render.

I doubt Urban Construct would place millions of their dollars on the line if they had not done their homework and made a decision that by the time this building will be complete in 2010, there will be sufficient demand in Glenelg to make this a success.

The Platinum apartment building was completed in 2006, so by the time this is complete in 2010, I am sure that the current oversupply in apartments will have vanished. Furthermore this building will appeal to a different type of buyer, in that this building will include many studio apartments with no carpark. Thus this building unlike Platinum is aimed at younger buyers.
