I poked my head out tonight, and it's true. So far they have hoarding, two transportable buildings onsite and have exploritoriarily* upturned some of the pavers from the site.

*This may not be a word, but it should be.

Looks great. Loving these 5/6 story developments popping up in our city.

They seem to sell really well aswell, and they all seem to be of high quality.

A $15 million medical centre with a state-of-the-art chemotherapy centre will be built on the vacant block on the corner of Hutt St and South Tce.

Site developer the Cambridge Group has announced the development will be leased by St Andrew's Hospital.

The three-storey St Andrew's Medical Centre will include specialists' consulting rooms, a pharmacy and pathology labs.

The site, which has sat vacant since a surgery was demolished about 10 years ago, has been earmarked for several developments in the past, including residential apartments in 2004 and offices in 2005.

The project's proponents are hoping the development will be a catalyst for further street development and improve the gateway to the city.

St Andrew's Hospital chief executive Stephen Walker said the centre would help strengthen the south-east corner as a medical hub.

"It means we can provide a cancer service to the South Australian community into the future,'' he said.

The medical centre is set to be completed by mid 2013

I agree with the praise for the 'new design language' at UniSA City West. Check this out:

http://w3.unisa.edu.au/facilities/capit ... n_2020.pdf

It's a long way from the tight budget given to Guy Maron which resulted in the modular boxes which comprise the 'old buildings'. Interestingly Maron's brief was for an institution where physical attendance by students would decline. Hassell's brief is for an increasing number of students.

I gotta say, Super TAFE has come a long way. And what they're doing with architecture is great for Adelaide. No boring, bland, boxes but interesting buildings.
