This one has been friggin hillarious

It's located between the Lakes Hotel (great bar there) and a chinese restaurant - 10 doors down from Infinity.

It was originally proposed as a single 10 storey building, but is now 2 x 7 storey, with apartments and office space.

At one point it was denied approval by the Charles Sturt DAP - but half the panel didn't even bother showing up to the meeting

Anyways, here's the latest:

CALL TO OPEN PANEL

THE disputed West Lakes twin towers development has finally been approved but its developers are mystified as to why it took so long.
M & L Developments is calling for the decision making of Charles Sturt Council's Development Assessment Panel (DAP) to be made transparent, in the wake of the towers dispute that saw two different designs submitted to the panel.

After being refused by the DAP, M & L altered its first application for 145 Brebner Drv from a single nine-storey tower into two, seven-story buildings with 40 three-bedroom apartments, nearly 600m of office space and 99 car parks. But the revised plans also were rejected by the DAP, leading to a compulsory conciliation conference between council and developers, after M & L launched an appeal in the Environment, Resources and Development Court.

The conference led to a breakthrough on September 21.

M & L director Luke Foster called for the current DAP arrangements to be changes to give developers in the future a clearer understanding of how the panel reached its decisions.

Currently, DAP meetings at Charles Sturt are held behind closed doors away from the public and the media. ``We've been sitting on that piece of land now for two years, and we've probably spent around $700,000 just waiting around,' he said.

``It's a development that was wanted by the local community and it's one that is needed.

``I'm glad we can get on with it now but the development process has to be made transparent.''

Charles Sturt Council has defended its handling of the application, saying it always attempted to reach the best outcome for major projects in the area.

``We don't consider the changes to be minor,'' planning and development manager Belinda Wood said in an emailed statement.

Ms Wood said issues with the plans raised by council staff were not addressed adequately, saying M & L were given ample opportunity to fix the problems before submitting plans to the DAP.

The towers are expected to be completed by late 2007.

Hahaha great 2 see another large development at West Lakes approved. And also great to see that local councils such as this one are showing lack of interest in such projects. Hopefully it will continue

Wow! Didn't even know this project existed. Thats great to see decent size projects in the suburbs. Maybe Makris should consider moving their project west where there are less "villigers".

But the Charles Sturt council appears to be the most anti-development council. They rejected this proposal as well as the Infinity Waters apartment building.

By the way, great to see a 'skyline' developing at West Lakes. Hopefully there will be more and taller proposals in the near future!

Hey Guys.

This is a new apartment complex planned for Brebner Dr West Lakes, just down the road from Infinity.

It's 7 storeys and looks as though 2 seperate towers. Still in design phase as far as I know.

Renders coming, my html sucks.
