Just looking at the proposed development compared to the progress made, I’m not sure stage 2 will be finished in time for the Adelaide International starting January 2nd. The new curved glazed addition facing Telstra Plaza looks miles off. Have I missed an update about this or is it still doable?
They've said from the beginning that the stage 2 development will be, "Event ready" by January with completion expected mid 2022.

I'm looking forward to the Tennis in a couple weeks myself. Just from a glimpse I've seen walking past, it looks like they've refitted the whole stadium with new blue seats.

Do we still have two bloody tennis courts in the one stadium?

This will end the two courts on centre court, and will move to the conventional one court.

Back in the day, it was actually 3 courts. When hardcourts came in, the middle court became rebound ace, while the outer courts were grass (came in handy for some Davis Cup ties). The grass courts were only removed in 2007 when Plexicushion became the default surface for Australian courts.

Yes I remember seeing a few tournaments with the three.

First game I ever saw live was Henman and Philippousis in the final. Great match.

Went to the tennis Friday night and sat in the new northern stand.

Besides the two great matches, the stand itself is a massive improvement on the old stand. You feel like you're right on top of the action, and it's great to have bathroom facilities that are accessible all the time (unlike the old ones which were largely inaccessible between games due to the space being shared with player access). Still some finishing works to be done but all up it's a fantastic stand.

The only drawback is the legroom is quite tight, but that's offset by nice, spacious concourses. Plus the access between the concourse and the seating is great if you have to wait for a change of ends. You can still see most of the action while waiting to be allowed back to your seat.

It does look good for what it is, but we ended up with the worst of all the options. Either an entire redevelopment of the precinct was required with a modern arena built, or a semi-redevelopment as we've got now plus a brand new city arena.

Now we're stuck with a semi-redeveloped Memorial Drive and a tired and ageing Entertainment Centre, leaving Adelaide as the only major capital city without a modern arena once Brisbane build theirs for the Olympics.

Looks pretty good considering they didn't spend a bazillion dollars.

Agreed. I wonder if there’s any scope to make this into something bigger in 5-10 years?

Well Marshall did propose a $600 million "basketball stadium", but the ppl voted. Can't see anything better getting floated in the next 3 and a bit years :|

Yeh well, there was also the vision for this stadium to be completely redeveloped, but you know, Mr Marshall didn't like that idea, he wanted to also spend half a billion on a stadium like Labor did so he can point to something and say "I did that".

There were plans, but I don't believe there was ever a vision to turn Memorial Drive into a 15k multipurpose arena to replace the ageing Entertainment Centre.
