[COM] Re: 231-243 Waymouth Street | 55m | 17lvls | Student Accom
Even if you think it's subjectively ugly, we should be encouraging developers to be more daring with their architecture. Some polarising buildings around the city is a heck of a lot more interesting than the same bland shit we normally get. We certainly don't need any more blocks with glass balconies and pods with grey aluminium panels and the the odd bit framed in some highlight colour.
If you think this looks like it's from a war zone, pull your head out of your hyperbolic arse. That's the same nonsense as when people describe a development as "future slums", despite not in the least bit resembling a real slum.

Could not agree more. I for one feel this is the most texturally diverse development we've had in recent times. Yes it's polarising, but seeing it on the urban context once the rest of the adjacent sites are developed, I think we'll appreciate the diversity on the skyline that this building has introduced.

The earlier shot where the concrete is contrasted with the red brick building is the key. When everything is focalised on the building it's a strange beast. But I'm really looking forward to it having neighbours. One to watch as the west end evolves.Pikey wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2018 11:13 amCould not agree more. Swiss cheese building is my vote. Just too bad they didn't finish it off with yellow cladding.

The colour variations are fading or perhaps I am getting more used to this building.
I think the variations add to the brutal appeal of this building
There is a large mobile crane working on the east side, as at 29/1/2018

I had a bit of a closer look at this development today.
To be honest, it doesn't look so bad from ground level. The rear garden looks nice and the interior is decent as well.

Atira is the name of the accomodation provider. They have multiple locations in Melbourne too.

I must be the only one on this forum that actually likes this building.
Something different, and we keep talking about it - must be doing something right.
Oh well, each to their own

I quite like it as well. The windows are unique and like Nathan says, it's more interesting for a city to have the occasional out there, quirky design than to have clone after clone of similar looking buildings.

Please sign the petition. This is no creative. just cheap building to gain more profit.slenderman wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2016 6:18 pmSign me up for the group that doesn't like it - the materials might save it, but they could also ruin it. I'm not entirely sure how to articulate it, but I don't really like that the windows just look like they've been cut out of the cladding and had glass stuck into them. I suppose it has the fact that it's quite unique for Adelaide going for it, but that isn't necessarily a good thing.
As an aside, in the render it appears that there is still a fair bit of space on that empty lot behind the proposed building. Any chance that could be used for a potential second stage?
