not sure if this has been mentioned... are we going have a central platform in between the tracks, or one on either side of the tracks (like the melbourne system with the safety zone) Image

For the extension, it has been decided to use 'island' platforms between 4.2m (for City West, Railway Station and Victoria Square) and 3.5m wide (for Rundle Mall and Pirie Street). It is partly for passenger safety because unlike the Melbourne 'safety zones', island platforms can be intergrated into pre existing pedestrian crossings which is the plan here. When comparing the total width between the two, they are both similar.

You can easily tell where the new platforms are going to go because of the extra track width compared to normal.

There's a bit of an issue that seems to have arisen out of the work done on the weekend. It is regarding the changes to traffic signals and conditions at the North Terrace and King William Street intersection. There used to be a "B" signal that used to allow buses turning right from King William Street that was removed over the weekend. Numerous times I spotted near misses between buses completing the hook turn and cars turning right from North Terrace.

The affected bus routes are the F40, M44, 174, 176, 177, 178, 179 and 291.

The B light has been replaced with two new sets of B lights, one yellow and one white, on the north median and the north east corner.

I did notice those signals, but I am not sure that both of them serve the same purpose, quite possibly. They certainly weren't operating though.

Please excuse the long delay since my last extension photo update. I did get some shots from last week but I havn't found the time to get the photos up. First, photobucket is dead slow and secondly, year 12 isn't exactly time friendly! These photos are from last week. Pavement has gone into place along to median in North Terrace along with new traffic lights near Morphett Street Bridge. Also got a couple of shots of the track set in concrete. Should be a 'light load' this time with only 5 photos.

Stage 4 of the project has been released. The work involved will be the comstruction of the curve from North Terrace into King William Street and also from King William Street to Victoria Square across Franklin Street. Rumour has it that the overhead will also start to go in this weekend as well. There are a few holes in the newly laid pavment on the median in North Terrace and I have also seen a few conduit cables sticking out of the ground near City West. I sadly will be Whyalla bound for the weekend so I cannot present my photo essay this time.

Everyone will be happy to know that part of the 2007/2008 budget is a tram overpass for South Rd near the Anzac underpass. They must have realised the underpass was pointless without the tram overpass.

Maybe South Road is slowly becoming the freeway we want it to be :P
