The banks want staff back in the office, but want the rest of us (particularly regional folk) to BFH (Bank from home)….. or at the next branch/atm how many kms away.

Surely businesses like banks and telcos have embraced working from home and automation a lot more than government.
You'd think so, especially with a cost of living crisis, flexible arrangements like WFH should be the go to, but even NAB has told senior staff they have to work from the office 5 days a week.

Hybrid WFH/Office should be the standard these days.

Bet CBA and NAB and others will still be churning out their internal climate change net zero propaganda to staff though, all the while taking steps that will increase traffic, increase the footprint of their business overall...
Chatting to a CEO from a major company here in Perth on this topic recently, he advised that WFH has proven to be a bad outcome for the company, in productivity and morale- and they have required all their staff to be now back in the office full time- except where a contract specifically allows. Ironically, the state government and Perth CC had a big push for their assorted department workers to be back in the office- to assist with getting the CBD back on track, but it seems the public servants were the most reluctant to return.

Sands & McDougall is coloured Portland cement (remembering that it's a 1930s remodelling of an 1880s building), and I believe this may be part of its heritage listing so cannot be painted. I think the aesthetic trouble is that the old façade is warm toned and the new façade looks cold. I'm unsure if it's a light sandstone or limestone, but I think they should have chosen a creamier finish for a complementary contrast.
I think that's what's causing the trouble for me - I think it's great that the heritage frontage stands out but tones of the old and new façades do not seem to complement each other as well as they perhaps could.

It's a really minor (and very subjective) niggle on an otherwise fantastic result.

I'm a face-to-face sort of guy, but I can appreciate that the best office-WFH balance can be different for everyone. I'm looking forward to being in this new building full-time.

The 2nd photo almost looks like a render. Very high quality development. More of this standard please.

It looks like the render! Almost like seeing a burger at Maccas that looks like the menu ...

And now that we can see it in the flesh (or ... in the steel), I reckon it complements that part of the street and fits in so well. It feels like it was meant to be there. I'm biased, of course. But it's heartening to see a beautiful modern development smack bang at Rundle Mall, perhaps the most prominent street corner in Adelaide.

Great photos! They put my very quick ones from this morning to shame.

I observed some serious workmanship in action, with several builders working on some of the external finishing and stonework at footpath level.

if you squint it almost looks like a modern city street

it shows how run down the rest of KW street is by comparison due to lack of almost any buildings constructed in the past 40 years and existing buildings having had very little spent on them to bring them into the 21st century.

I'm very much out of time, but for what it's worth, here are some screen shots of videos I took of the building progress before I joined the forum:

Personally I think the old facade standing out like it does is nice.
Reckon it would look terrible if they tried to match the colour exactly.
