Like them or not, it will be a massive coup, they are undeniably one of the most important bands in music history, or indeed in the history of the 20th Century. You would prefer One Direction or something?

You're misinformed. This would be part of a national stadium tour... it'd be like Kiss and Mötley Crew at the Clipsal 500, the state government would pay the promoters to secure an Adelaide date on the tour. There is nothing exclusive about this idea.build 'em smarter wrote:It doesnt matter who the headline act is, as long as it is an instantly recognisable band, and that the concert at Adelaide Oval is an Australian exclusive (one off), not part of a tour... this will then make news interstate, promoting the oval and Adelaide...
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m
Of course. unless the act chosen is their favourite performer. Musical taste is so varied it would be impossible to get one act to please the majority. That said even though the Stones aren't my cup o tea, it seems like a solid choice to open the Oval IMO. Better than Meatloaf;) lolHooligan wrote:Regardless of who the opening act is people will complain.
and no. That's just not an Adelaide thing.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m
As this is not a one off concert and just part of a national tour, it does not even rate a mention as the opening act of the new oval regardless of who it is. Could be 1D for all anyone will care interstate.... Really, I dont get the fuss over this... the "Stones need a large arena to perform in, and the oval will be the logical (only)choice in Adelaide. That it is going to be promoted as "the opening act" and as if that is the only reason they are coming to Adelaide because of the new oval is just a wank by the Adelaide media.

Not if it's true that the State Government are offering $$$ as a sweetener to avoid them skipping Adelaide altogether.claybro wrote:As this is not a one off concert and just part of a national tour, it does not even rate a mention as the opening act of the new oval regardless of who it is. not sure why the state government would have to offer the Strolling Bones a sweetner to come here, when Bon Jovi are apparently happy to do a stadium gig without such a sweetner. Regardless...if the state government have offered a sweetner to come here, well and good, but it will not be the national exposure being hyped here by the media, if they are playing every other capital anyway. It will be a big splash in the small pond of Adelaide only. The real opening for most will be the first ever AFL game at the new stadium.Matt wrote:Not if it's true that the State Government are offering $$$ as a sweetener to avoid them skipping Adelaide altogether.claybro wrote:As this is not a one off concert and just part of a national tour, it does not even rate a mention as the opening act of the new oval regardless of who it is. Don't suppose we can postpone Bon Jovi by a couple of months and have him as the opening act at Adelaide Ovalclaybro wrote:not sure why the state government would have to offer the Strolling Bones a sweetner to come here, when Bon Jovi are apparently happy to do a stadium gig without such a sweetner. You're spot on about most people viewing the first AFL game as the real opening. On the same token, what will be considered as AAMI Stadium's real closing, the Port v Carlton game, yesterday's SANFL Grand Final, or the Bon Jovi concert in years to come?

G'day, enjoyed looking at all the recent pictures on here!
Wondering if anyone has an idea of when the turf will be laid on the oval?

they have almost finished levelling out most of the undersoil, so I would imagine they will start laying the grass in the next 2 weeks. they have already laid the drop in pitches. the first Sheffield Shield match is in late november so they would need the turf laid well before then.Seldom21 wrote:G'day, enjoyed looking at all the recent pictures on here!

I went down this afternoon at around 4:20 and got told the entrance at the Clarrie Grimmett gates is now blocked to the public. The normal gates that you go through were closed, so I went past the railings and was told to not proceed by someone behind the old ticketing booth.
People can give it a shot and try their luck but don't assume you're going to be able to get in.
