Currently it is non-stop 60km/h from Everard St at Ashford to Edward St at Melrose Park without the problems of which you speak. A 60km/h speed limit caters for it.

Anyway, houses should not be permitted any longer along arterial roads like South Road.
You guys can argue all you want against freeways, but cities all over the world are still building them and others upgrading theirs.
I wonder what will happen with McDonalds and BP though. That's one of the most profitable maccas around I believe.

It would be a very expensive project but it's probably the best solution to permanently fix this part of South Road and not become one mega eyesore, eg elevated highway in suburbia. Here's my idea >> Superway extended over Regency Road > South Road widened into 6 lanes which then goes underground just before Torrens Road. It will include a off ramp for motorists traveling to the airport and city on Sir Donald Bradman Dve and will eventually connect with an extended Anzac Highway underpass..... Had spare time getting to my destination On Sunday, took a slight detour(at 40kph of course) and whipped out the trusty iPhone. This thing is going to be so damned tall. I think people will get quite the shock at how high it is when its completed.

Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Just a bit further up the road is the freight rail line to the Port. Have they started delivering the modules for the Air Warfare destroyer yet? Were they coming by Train or Barge? I think the reason it is so high is because it is an industrial area and heavy vehicles are the primary focus. It is not an overpass in suburban Adelaide.

Exactly , As I understand it the whole point of this is its a freight corridor upgrade, Its got almost nothing to do with the long desired N/S freeway for ADL car drivers. Once the Northern Connector is built It will be possible for trucks to get from the industrial Port area and surrounds(NW ADL) to parts North with no traffic lights of level crossings.rev wrote:Yes they've started delivering the modules. Parents call for South Rd overpass

FASTER traffic flows make a footbridge over South Rd an urgent priority, Black Forest Primary School parents say.
They say the tram overpass and Gallipoli underpass to the north have led to faster, heavier traffic flows past the school.
They fear for the safety of their children.
Rhianne Johns, whose children Darian, 10, and Anastasia, 8, attend the school, has helped set up a Facebook page calling for an overpass. The entry has 111 members.
“It’s most importantly for the children’s safety,” Ms Johns said.
“There are quite a lot of near misses, more in the past 18 months to two years since the tram track was lifted and the underpass was built ... Now it’s used like a racetrack.”
“Parents from the school think it’s only a matter of time before something more serious happens.”
A red-light speed camera was installed at the crossing this year in an effort to improve safety.
However, parent Mike Davis, who has two children attending the school, said the camera was only a “stop-gap measure”.
He said bollards and a longer pedestrian crossing time would be a start, but the footbridge was the ultimate solution.
“Little kids and heavy traffic don’t mix, that’s not a good recipe,” Mr Davis said.
“And you don’t want anyone to witness a child being run over by a truck - that image would be with them forever.”
Mr Davis said the Glandore tram overpass, about 300m north of the school, was too far away for parents with small children to use.
Black Forest’s school board chairman Stephen Halliday said: “The game changer was the tram being lifted, allowing a free flowing on South Rd.
“We’re very appreciative of the measures that the Government has taken, but in the long term an overpass is what we want.”
A Transport Department spokeswoman said the State Government had no plans to build an overpass as it would require the acquisition of land on both sides of South Rd.
Marion councillor Tim Pfeiffer has pushed the council to write to Transport Minister Patrick Conlon asking him to reconsider.
Neighbouring Unley Council was due to discuss the issue at its meeting this week.
