C'mon Dog,
Don't pack your bags and go home - I may not agree with your positions, but at least you throw them out there and keep this forum interesting.
Without contributions to discussions like this - politics achieves its ultimate state - boring as bat sh*t.

Re: The SA Politics Thread
Dog, I'm a bit disappointed you've removed all your posts. I agreed with some of them. People were just complaining that you were being too partisan about them. All pollies need to be grilled as they're all bending the truth. Anything of substance you had to say was being lost in the signal to noise ratio.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I was enjoying them too Dog, though I agree with Mono's comments above.

Hmmm... I wonder if these new powers of mine will have the same effect here at work.
Will go find someone who's annoying me, give them a rev-up, and let you know.
Stay tuned...

Guys a parting gesture,
Is this a $200m cut to an Abbott election promise already? Or is Abbott's southern end South road upgrade going to take more than 4 years to build
I see the Lib's have only allocated $300m of the $500m promised to this project, over 4 years, in their newly released costings. Also I note that the Tonsley, rail interchange has been scraped.
Perhaps the un-blinkered amongst you may also note that out of the coalitions $11.5bn national infrastructure plan SA only gets this $300m that's 2.6%

After over 100 years in failing to get all the states to agree to the Murray River plan, a Labor government finally achieved it and I now see an Abbott government is cutting $650m from the water buy back.
What do these guys really believe in!
Can now see why they waited to release this rubbish after election media blackout, News Limited or Fairfax are hardly going to question these cuts

Oh yes and there's the $9bn waste of the PPL,
Now RIP dog

I'm not sure why you need to martyr your self Dog.
On topic, I'll ask you a simple question, why does SA, a stagnant economy with a stagnant and aging population deserve to be focused on when the vast majority of population growth and economic activity is elsewhere?
In terms of the paid parental leave, it isn't a waste - like the one at the moment, it is actually a great source of government investment.

Re: The SA Politics Thread
Dog, I apologise if I came across too harshly earlier. I obviously can't speak on behalf of everyone else on this forum and I certainly didn't intend for you to delete all your previous posts. I would defend to the death anyone's right to express their political opinion, irrespective of whether I agree with it!
My issue is that posting page after page of extremely partisan and lengthy political commentary on a discussion forum is not discussion, it's an essay. Discussion requires engagement, not a one-sided lecture. And when you start to dress up opinion as fact (e.g. the GST distribution issue), then it moves on from being a lecture and enters the realm of propaganda. And I doubt anyone would agree that there's a place for that sort of thing in this forum.
Happy voting on the weekend and may the best team win!

I second that. Deleting posts is extremely annoying.Waewick wrote:I'm not sure why you need to martyr your self Dog.
Because the economy here is stagnant, spending money here is less inflationary, so the government can afford to spend more.On topic, I'll ask you a simple question, why does SA, a stagnant economy with a stagnant and aging population deserve to be focused on when the vast majority of population growth and economic activity is elsewhere?
Unfortunately both sides of politics seem to be under the impression that the long term aim should be to eliminate debt, which means running surpluses. Had Rudd explained that to deficits add to gross debt not net debt (so future taxpayers don't have to pay them back or even pay the interest on them) and that the real reason surpluses are desirable is to keep interest rates low in the boom, he'd probably still be PM next week. I can only conclude he doesn't know himself.
A policy that hands out more government money to those who don't need it than to those who do is irrefutably a waste, as well as being profoundly unAustralian! If they were serious about investing money to keep mothers in the workforce, ensuring affordable childcare was available for everyone would be much more effective. In terms of the paid parental leave, it isn't a waste - like the one at the moment, it is actually a great source of government investment.

I agree affordable childcare is also important - but isn't that also handing out money to people who don't need it?
In terms of the Federal view of things SA, given both Parties are focused on Northern Australia, I firmly believe they see SA as the source of the population growth up there, where else are they going to get the number of people need to move there?
That view makes significant investment in SA pointless, given they probably aren't projecting much to happen down here in the interim.

Re: The SA Politics Thread
What about a conspiracy theory - has Abbot agreed with State Libs to hold back on any additional funding announcements until our own election - so he can wrap up the last mainland State into the blue tie club? Perhaps we will see some big dollars magically appear in early 2014 for Marshall's run home
(I agree that less than 3% of total capital spend is a touch out of kilter - we are closer to 7-8% of national economy)

No it isn't. It's providing (or at least ensuring the availability of) a service not a handout, and it applies equally to those who do need it,Waewick wrote:I agree affordable childcare is also important - but isn't that also handing out money to people who don't need it?
Western Sydney! Considering the great lengths the pollies will go to to appear to be concerned about the traffic congestion without actually funding the infrastructure, they'd obviously rather some of the Western Sydney residents lived somewhere else. And then of course there's immigration - if the government wasn't so obsessed with stopping people reaching Northern Australia, the problem of finding people to go there would solve itself. In terms of the Federal view of things SA, given both Parties are focused on Northern Australia, I firmly believe they see SA as the source of the population growth up there, where else are they going to get the number of people need to move there?

I agree with the rest. but SA is a minor nuisance to the federal pollies, where as Sydney is sydney.
I do like the conspiracy theory re:state election 2014, would be great if it was true.
