Telstra announces multimillion dollar investment in new Adelaide Oval.
Telstra CEO, David Thodey, today unveiled plans to turn Adelaide Oval into one of Australia’s most technically advanced connected stadiums.
Working with Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority, Telstra will deliver increased mobile capacity as well as improve the spectator experience to connect fans, the stadium and the sports they love. This includes a full upgrade to the main entrance off War Memorial Drive, where 70 per cent of patrons enter the ground, which will be renamed the Telstra Plaza.

What a joke! They can't brand the oval, so they brand it's surrounds. I hold no issue over the redevelopment of the oval because it's proven it's worth, but commercial branding in and around the oval is just spoiling it all.I Follow PAFC wrote:Telstra announces multimillion dollar investment in new Adelaide Oval.

Looks like the Audi Club is getting the Etihad Stadium-style individual TV screens as part of the deal as well.
While next to none of us will be able to experience the IPTV, at least we'll have decent mobile/data coverage at the southern end of the ground.

I see no issue with the selling of the naming rights of the southern plaza. We already have the 'Audi Club' on the wing, so why not 'Telstra Plaza'. Also, the Telstra Plaza signage appears to blend in well with the surrounds. If it brings in a little extra money, then that's a good thing right.

I'll be dissatisfied (though not necessarily whinge) with anything the $MA/$ANFL says until they stop screwing both AFL clubs.

bah, its always about blaming othersChillyPhilly wrote:I'll be dissatisfied (though not necessarily whinge) with anything the $MA/$ANFL says until they stop screwing both AFL clubs.
had the club who was first to sign done any DD there wouldn't be this problem.
I have no sympathy for either club.

There was an article back in March about Pennington Gardens not opening up until after the AFL season concluded, but every time I go past it looks completely finished.
Yet, there's fencing around the entire park, and still no public access permitted. Anyone know why it hasn't been opened up as of yet?
It's a great spot to have a picnic, but it would certainly reduce the amount of congestion for people leaving via the East gate.

This isn't a blame game tbh. It's filth and vile corruption. And what name is involved with the SMA? None other than John Olsen...Waewick wrote:bah, its always about blaming othersChillyPhilly wrote:I'll be dissatisfied (though not necessarily whinge) with anything the $MA/$ANFL says until they stop screwing both AFL clubs.

They want to let the garden at least establish itself before letting sports fans trample it to death.Henwii wrote:There was an article back in March about Pennington Gardens not opening up until after the AFL season concluded, but every time I go past it looks completely finished.

Oh c'mon, mnotonehell. This thread is always breaking off into the politics of sporting organisations, just because you don't like what is being said, you don't have to pull out the authority.
To those above calling me comment a 'whinge', perhaps ot is. But my point is valid. Adelaide Oval is seemingly becoming the basis for your typical AFL ground by installing all of these commercial fittings, further destroying the heritage vibe that cricket has upheld for so long. It's a sporting venue not a commercial hub, branding a goddamn plaza? Give me a break! That's the first step towards branding the oval itself, or the footbridge.
