God forbid you should ever become a politician, that would be a nightmare.

I would rather suffer a shortage of workers within the construction industry than to just blatantly open the floodgates to immigration to fill up those spaces. We cannot afford to allow poorly educated Indian labourers at the helm of the Australian building industry. That would severely impair our repuation for high building safety standards and allow an en masse of short-cutting exercises to be undertaken jeopardising a buildings structure.

Green cards are getting fazed out into white cards and is all about safety so the workers can go home alive every night and has nothing to do with the union, The union has no power anymore so you hardly ever see them on site. What are you talking about when you say that the workers are all slack , if your slack the boss will sack you because there is no job security at all the union cant do anything. The pay is also crap why do you think there is such a skill shortage because no kids want to work hard for fuckall pay do they. So i would like to know what site you think you work at.

1. The Union does still have power - take a look at the CFMEU in WA and Victoria.

2. The pay is good in the construction industry - the hours aren't.

3. The skills shortage is due to the better rates of pay available in the mining industry (as many construction skills are portable to mining).

4. Workers are motivated by clever contractors .

The median is currently being completed on Anzac Highway. After it's done, the full 3 lanes on Anzac Highway will reopen.

The footpath on the bridge has also been completed.

Here's the full info from the Adelaide Connect website. The info is from September 2007 but should still be accurate:

TIMEFRAMES AND STAGING OF WORKS
• Construction activities started in July 2007 and are scheduled for completion by the end of 2009.
• Construction works will take place in three stages:
Stage 1: (July 2007 – Mid 2008).
Stage 2: (Mid 2008 – Mid 2009).
Stage 3: (Mid 2009 - End 2009).

In summary, Stage 1 is building the noise walls, southern bridge deck, new culverts and north-bound entry ramp. Stage 2 is the northern bridge deck, excavating the underpass and opening the underpass by the end of Stage 2. Stage 3 will be landscaping and finalising any other work.

Just open the immigration floodgates for construction workers/trades.. thats what they have done in IT. Will solve any "slackness" problems.

Then that just fuels house prices and more construction as those people have to find homes etc.

first time poster so apologies if wrong forum however:
- 1) Does anyone know what they are builing just north of the South Rd/ANAZC Hwy underpass. On the left hand side as you drive north near Tennyson Rd corner. It has BADGE construction sign out the front. Also when is it due to be finished?
- 2) Does anyone know when the cars will be able to use the underpass. The website states that around May but I am unsure if the construction is ahead or behind in schedule. Hoping that it maybe able to be used in MArch/April but may require some inside knowledge.

It's some type of warehouse, but unsure of the nature of it.

Apparently this project is right on schedule. The opening I predict to be sometime around April or May, most likely the latter.

Looks like it's being constructed as "Specialist Medical Centre", which may not be its final name (?)

1. This is Adelaide and your lucky if you see the union rep ever on site, unless your on a big site with the main builders.
2. The pay is crap unless you think 50000 is good pay for a tradesman of 25 years experiance. The hours are great 7 to 3 unless you cant get out of bed.
3. They only started talking about skills shortage because the mining industry is was taking off, and ofcourse there are plenty of tradesman working away because the money is 3 times better.
