How do we lose the 'boring & dull' stereotype?
Re: How do we lose the 'boring & dull' stereotype?
Interesting you say that Wayno; Both Liberals and Labor both very well know Labor's got the stronghold until 2018 at least. Why Labor isn't capitalising on that prospect, I don't know.

No wonder the tram projects all finish in 2018Shuz wrote:Interesting you say that Wayno; Both Liberals and Labor both very well know Labor's got the stronghold until 2018 at least. Why Labor isn't capitalising on that prospect, I don't know.
Adelaide defiantly needs more things for younger people to enjoy, not just churches and the like for the old people. What the hell happened to all the amusement parks for example, and why even in country areas is there no real attempt to cash in on the great summers ?

I don't mind the "Adelaide, City of Churches" tag, as it actually refers to our progressive and liberal past rather than any conservatism we are usually associated with today. ie Adelaide was a place where everyone was welcomed, no matter what creed, and thus everyone came and were free to set up their own church, hence all the different churches and tagline. That said we need to equally be "The Festival State" to incite a sense of excitement whenever you hear the name of Adelaide.fabricator wrote: Adelaide defiantly needs more things for younger people to enjoy, not just churches and the like for the old people. Like the mullet we can be business at the front and party time at the back, the city of churches by day and the festival state by night
(note to reader: i dont condone the resurgence of the mullet)

I thought the same thing mate. However, i am looking forward to the Property Coouncil releasing their 2036 blueprint. They have been working on this for a very long time, so we should we expect (hopefully) to see some positive recommendations. Will wrote:I was so embarrassed reading that article. These talkfests that we have every 3 months and which don't amount to anything contribute to us having a negative reputation. A lot of good ideas have been generated in the past. Even just looking back through this thread reveal plenty of good ideas. We have had enough talkfests, and it is time that those in charge did something to inspire people.

For those of you who don't know; Labor State Government usually takes on board a lot of the Property Council's recommendations. Watch this space.
Re: How do we lose the 'boring & dull' stereotype?
Was having a very interesting conversation with a friend tonight, talking about the perception of Adelaide, and we were talking about how it's all in a name. Maybe if we change a lot of suburb names into something far more granduer, people's negative perceptions will go away?
Made a mention about Noarlunga for example; Should follow suit, like Adelaide and Elizabeth, into being renamed after an English queen; perhaps, Victoria?
Suburbs with names like Kilkenny, and Kilburn should go, sounds very negative. Same goes for any place with a Downs suffix.
We should opt for traditional English names, to fit in with the Euro-Adelaide context. Oxford, Manchester, for example?

I don't understand why every Adelaide suburb needs to be made "posh". It's good to have a few rougher areas because it creates diversity and life. This is something dull suburbia is lacking of, diversity. We need more of it. Shuz, are you basically out to drive out all the lower class people so Adelaide can be the poshiest and glamerous city in the world? If so, why?
Re: How do we lose the 'boring & dull' stereotype?
Elizabeth does not generate any positive perceptions even though it is named after a queen. Furthermore there are plenty of places in England which have 'posh' sounding names but in reality are quite feral.Shuz wrote:Was having a very interesting conversation with a friend tonight, talking about the perception of Adelaide, and we were talking about how it's all in a name. I don't think you could get a more British name than Kilburn, and Kilkenny is as Irish as they come!Shuz wrote:Was having a very interesting conversation with a friend tonight, talking about the perception of Adelaide, and we were talking about how it's all in a name. Broadmeadows is a suburb with a bad reputation in two states, which has to be some of record.
Changing a suburbs name doesn't help, it just changes it to a suburb where no one knows where it is. Which leads to having to explain its relation to other suburbs, which leads to "oh you mean [old name]". Its a waste of time, fix the media's biased reporting would do far more, nothing but bad news reported for outer suburbs.

Elizabeth should be renamed Playford.Shuz wrote:Was having a very interesting conversation with a friend tonight, talking about the perception of Adelaide, and we were talking about how it's all in a name.
