Yes, a nice design but wrong location. The DAP got it right for once.

Agree with that. There is precious little left of Victorian building along Hutt St.
Also in that precinct, it looks like there are some new apartments to be built on west side of Daly St, between Ifould and Flinders St. I think they are called Aria and demolition has started.
Anyone know this development?

I too echo the chorus of the council's decision. This is a rare of a good planning decision that they have made, but I caution the council not to discourage the developer, but rather encourage them to look at an alternative site to grant planning consent for this development.

OMG I agree with the Council!!
The building is hardly amazing anyway, it seems rather typical in style to me..

I'm going to have to break ranks, and say I disagree with the decision. I ride past those cottages every day, and they're nothing special at all - especially the centre one. Personally I would like to see buildings like the proposed mix with the 1 and 2 story older buildings along Hutt St.

I'm not sure which way i'll sway on this one but I do think it's funny that the first proposed building after Harbo's rant that we need more buildings blah blah cut red tape blah blah is knocked back
I mean talk about sending mixed signals to developers.

The building being demolished on the west side of Daly St, between Ifould and Flinders St has half disappeared! They are working quickly and good to see the old nondescript place removed. There is no signage of what is being built there. I looked on the net for "Aria apartments" but no luck. Will keep an eye on it but some decent sized apartments would be nice for that part of town.

In today's AFR - the Mercedes site on Gouger St has been sold to a Chinese developer for $10m. The developer intends to push on with the existing development plan. The AFR reports undersupply in the CBD apartment market drove the sale.

Ahhhh... So that's why the new fence around the site was erected last week. Will be good if / when this one goes ahead. The streetscape needs some additional life and apartments will be ideal + so close to the market etc.

Thursday's AFR is a must for development nerds.
Advanced Energy Systems is to install solar panels to power the entire $150m residential project at 171-201 Gouger St (This is Merc on Gouger, correct?). The project will be 6 levels, contain 300 apartments and ground floor retail. AES has a 7% stake in the project. If approved, construction will begin next year.
Also in today's AFR, the three level heritage ex-RAA building on Hindmarsh Sq is back up for auction after the previous contract failed. The agent is promoting it as a retail/hospitality site.
