From the photos you can see it's on the West bank of the Port River between the grain silos and the Torrens Island power station (which are on the East bank).

I hadn't heard of this until the boats from Port adelaide Sailing Club were being moved there earlier this week. Can't find any earthworks on Google Earth either, but it's obviously well underway.

The Challenge
To deliver a world-class multi-purpose marina which accommodates a number of specific marine related businesses/organisations (including the Port Adelaide Sailing Club), and to create a viable marine-industry hub which will act as a catalyst for growth in the industry.

The Solution
LMC has identified a site at Largs North suitable for the creation of a complete marine industry complex, combining both a marina and an industrial subdivision capable of supporting a range of marine-related industry uses. Existing marine industry facilities at Davis Street will be incorporated into the overall development, and excavated material from the marina basin will be re-used to raise the level of the adjacent land, making it suitable for industrial subdivision.

The Success
Success will arise from the completion and use of the Marine Precinct. 180 boats will be accommodated, and new public boat ramps, car-parking, roads and services will be supplied. Out of water hard stand areas will be provided for boat repairs and maintenance. This will allow boat owners to achieve best practice in vessel maintenance. Existing industry will be complemented by the construction of new industrial allotments.

Removing boat building activities from the Port's inner harbor will eliminate the source of pollutants entering the river and allow for the clean up of the area and make that land available for residential redevelopment. The new Marine Industry Precinct will incorporate state of the art equipment to ensure all marine maintenance activities occur on land in a contained area and are managed in accordance with the Environmental Protection Authority's Code of Practice.

The Future
The new Largs North Marine Precinct will provide a fully integrated sustainable marina and industrial precinct, which will provide employment opportunities and stimulate growth and marine investment in the Port Adelaide region.

The site for the Largs North Marine Precinct comprises a marina area of approximately 7.3 hectares, together with an industrial estate development area of 12 hectares.

The Precinct will be located on the Port River at Largs North, and be bound on the west by Elder and Mersey Roads. It incorporates an existing small marine industrial area at Davis Street, as well as the premises of the Girl Guides Aquatic Centre and the Port River Sailing Club.

Rhino - the Adelaide Marina has come up in the postings on the Port redevelopment, primarily because once Searles Boatyard and the remaining other boatyards are kicked out of the Port then for the 600 odd marina berths in the Inner Harbour the new marina will be the closest place (about 5 kms away) to buy anything from a shackle to a litre of fuel. My information is that this is a deliberate move by the govt to look after the new marina, even if it disadvantages everyone else. The excuse is that the boatyards are an unfixable source of pollution. Kingsley Haskett of Searles boatyard disagrees, but he's got his marching orders anyway.

It’s interesting to read the fine words LMC and the consortium bandied around at the start fo the development and see whether they’ve managed to achieve what they set out to.

(fine words excluding words like history, existing community, and most important of all, risk. It’s a risk to build to create an international tourism destination and income generator – but no risk at all in the present climate to run up a couple of thousand houses on free land.)

As for the Adelaide Marina, I wonder if there is some commercial-in-confidence clause (the govt and the likes of the LMC must love that phrase…) in the LMC/Scott Salisbury contract that promises Salisbury exclusivity via the simple means of obliterating the remaining marine service businesses from the inner Port. I wouldn’t be surprised – deliver a benefit to an individual party at cost to the wider community – isn’t that one of this government’s mantras?

The Challenge

Port Adelaide is one of the last major ports in Australia that has yet to be redeveloped. LMC has set out to revitalise the Port Adelaide Waterfront with a redevelopment that is exciting, attractive and sustainable while stimulating economic development and job creation in the region.

The Solution

In 2002, LMC selected the Newport Quays Consortium as its preferred development partner for the project. The Consortium prepared a redevelopment concept plan, which LMC placed on public exhibition late last year. Following the period for public consultation, the proposed redevelopment concept plan was revised.

Initiatives proposed by the preferred development consortium Newport Quays include the Port Adelaide Centre as a major revitalisation opportunity, with 2,000 new residential dwellings on waterfront land surrounded by a number of mixed-use precincts, ensuring a critical mass of development and subsequent growth.

The plan includes the provision for public boardwalks around the majority of the waterfront. Commercial development opportunities for waterfront dining, cafes and restaurants and the environmental clean-up of waterfront land are included in the proposal.

The Success

The Port Waterfront Redevelopment will be the largest urban development project undertaken in South Australia over the next decade. The $1.2 billion project is set to revitalise Port Adelaide by providing a mix of residential, commercial and tourism opportunities.

The Future

The revised development concept plan makes provision for 6,000 jobs, 2,000 residential apartments and $900 million in construction work, with a redevelopment that enhances the identity and maritime character of historic Port Adelaide while ensuring the future success of the region.

[Crown Marina]

Hi.

I am the Marina Manager for Crown Marina, the latest development by the Sam Sgherza Group.
Our Infinity Waters development had a lot of discussion on the site, so i thought i would give you some info on the marina.

The Crown Marina is located in the Northern basin of North Haven, and accessed off Alexa rd.
The site is 50,000 sqm of water and land.

The overall development will include 103 marina berths ranging in size from 12m - 34m, with secured car parking and user amenities.
A full yacht management service is on hand to cater for everything from boat cleaning to food service and boat repairs.

Construction started in June 2010, and 76 berths are now complete.
These 76 berths form stage 1 and range from 12m - 20m, these will soon start to fill with customers boats as services are turned on.

The second stage is designed to berth the largest boats in adelaide, and construction will start late in 2011.
