im new, so not sure if this has come up before or anything...

but i think it's time that something was done with the eyesore & under underutilised prime space behind parliament house/casino and next to the festival centre (ontop of the festival centre car park) with those ugly wierd shaped coloured blocks. Especially with the redevelopment of the outside of the festival centre area which looks great, i think this spoils it. This so called 'art' is outdated and needs to go!

Anyone have any ideas? or know if there are any plans or why it is still like this?

There can be no significant changes to the plaza or to the Hayek Sculptures because they are heritage listed. And rightly so, the Festival Centre is a magnificent building, and the plaza is a great open space.

ok i never knew they were heritage listed and never said anything about the festival centre building itself..... I was just thinking something could be done to rejuvenate the area, which still could be open space.... although i dont understand why those sculptures would be heritage listed.

Well I walk past it everyday to uni from the train station and I dun really find it that appealing. The rundle intersection banner (once built, if built) will be appealing, so with that said I think it does need to be modernized a bit.

The plaza is pretty outdated and needs a makeover to modernise it.

I'm surprised those sculptures have been heritage listed, that site could be perfect for a central gathering place with big screens.

Yeah well who the hell goes there anyway? I haven't been there since i was 5 and I was climbing those things there!

I sometimes think in disgust that they replaced the city baths with this sculptured open space. I have nothing against the Festival Theatre, but the public space outside is just a concrete jungle and one of the worst places to be in at any time.

The city baths were run-down and foul... this is one peice of Adelaide's past that deserved to go!

im too young to know what these city baths were... but i think its time the cycle continued and something replaced what ever these things are

Those things are both rubbish and this thing they got there now makes it look like a concrete desert!! PLEASE PUT SOMETHING MORE VISUALLY APPEALING THERE!!! HEHEHE

The original idea of the plaza was for it to serve as a meeting place (Think federation square in Melb).

It never turned out that way and to me it looks like a terrible eyesore.
That being said though, I don't know exactly what should be replacing it.

Quickly this is what I found on the web:

Constructed in 1861 on King William Rd, Adelaide s original City Baths were replaced by two-storey baths in 1883. They were completely remodelled again in 1940, with the addition of an Olympic-size swimming pool and high diving facilities. In 1969, the baths were demolished to make way for the Adelaide Festival Centre.
