Im not homophobic - but many in society still are open to fears about gays having the same 'rights' as heteros (which they should have) If Parliament hasnt allowed gay marriage and all other legalities associated, support for a gay person to lead power of a party would be a vote of support for the legalisation of gay rights and marriage. Both Liberals and Labor, including Nationals and Family First oppose the legalisation of gay rights. Once political parties support and pass bills supporting these rights, then that would be the time when political members would support a gay person leading a party.
